RIVERS SOLE ADMINISTRATOR SWEARS IN NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL CHAIRMEN

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), on Monday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected local government chairmen across the state.

The event, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, followed the conclusion of last weekend’s local government elections conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Administering the oath of office, Ibas urged the new council bosses to prioritize service delivery, transparency, and accountability in the management of local government resources. He stressed that their mandate was a call to duty and an opportunity to address the needs of grassroots communities.

“You have been entrusted with the responsibility to bring governance closer to the people. Your conduct must reflect fairness, inclusiveness, and dedication to the welfare of all residents,” the Sole Administrator said.

He further reminded the chairmen that the state government would not hesitate to hold them accountable for misuse of public funds or dereliction of duty.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area pledged loyalty to the state government and assured that the council leaders would work in line with policies designed to foster peace and development.

The newly sworn-in officials are expected to resume duties immediately in their respective councils, marking the commencement of a new administrative tenure at the grassroots level in Rivers State.

Breaking: Tinubu sends N1.48trn Rivers budget to N’Assembly

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday transmitted a budget proposal of N1.48 trillion for the Rivers State Government to the National Assembly for consideration and passage.

The President said the budget proposal became necessary because of the nullification of the 2025 budget of the state by the Supreme Court and the fact that the state is currently under emergency rule.

The President said that ₦324bn of the amount will be expended on infrastructure, ₦166bn on health, ₦75.6bn on education and ₦31.4bn on agriculture.

He added that by the provisions of the budget; agriculture is expected to generate about 6,000 jobs and appealed to the parliament to urgently pass the budget for the good of the state and its people.

Construction Giant Withdraws from Rivers State Projects

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has reportedly pulled out of several major project sites in Rivers State. According to John Martins, a media practitioner, the withdrawal is linked to the state's Sole Administrator's failure to fund ongoing projects despite receiving regular federal allocations and substantial internally generated revenue (IGR).

The development has resulted in the company placing many workers on standby, with operations stalled across multiple locations pending further directives.

RIVERS CRISIS: TINUBU, FUBARA MEET IN LONDON — TALKS MAY LIFT SUSPENSION

President Bola Tinubu reportedly met with suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in London last week in a move seen as part of renewed efforts to resolve the deepening political crisis in the state.

The closed-door meeting held shortly after the President’s return from Paris and was initiated at Fubara’s request.

Sources familiar with the development say Governor Fubara, who has been seeking a political lifeline since the Federal Government declared a state of emergency in oil-rich Rivers State, expressed willingness to make key compromises.

“Negotiations are ongoing, but from all indications, his suspension will be lifted before the six-month deadline,” a presidential adviser reportedly disclosed on condition of anonymity.

There are also indications that Fubara may consider defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to shore up political goodwill with President Tinubu. “If Fubara joins the APC, it means the president’s chances of winning Rivers State are much higher,” a source close to the presidency said.

The report further reveals that Fubara’s estranged political benefactor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was neither present at the London meeting nor briefed.

President Tinubu is, however, expected to broker a broader reconciliation meeting involving Governor Fubara, Wike, and the Rivers State lawmakers to find a lasting resolution to the crisis that has plagued the state for about two years now.

SUSPENDED GOVERNOR FUBARA DISTRIBUTES COWS AND N1 MILLION TO WARDS FOR EASTER

Despite his suspension, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has extended a hand of generosity to the people of Rivers State in celebration of the Easter season. He approved the distribution of one large cow and the sum of N1 million to each of the 319 political wards across the state.

This gesture, widely seen as an act of goodwill and solidarity, reinforces Fubara’s continued connection to the grassroots even amid political turbulence.

Many community members have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely support for families during the easter period. Local ward leaders are expected to coordinate and ensure fair distribution of the resources.

The Easter outreach highlights Fubara’s ongoing commitment to community welfare and his determination to remain engaged with the people of Rivers State, regardless of the political challenges he faces.
