RIVERS SOLE ADMINISTRATOR SWEARS IN NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL CHAIRMEN
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), on Monday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected local government chairmen across the state.
The event, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, followed the conclusion of last weekend’s local government elections conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
Administering the oath of office, Ibas urged the new council bosses to prioritize service delivery, transparency, and accountability in the management of local government resources. He stressed that their mandate was a call to duty and an opportunity to address the needs of grassroots communities.
“You have been entrusted with the responsibility to bring governance closer to the people. Your conduct must reflect fairness, inclusiveness, and dedication to the welfare of all residents,” the Sole Administrator said.
He further reminded the chairmen that the state government would not hesitate to hold them accountable for misuse of public funds or dereliction of duty.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area pledged loyalty to the state government and assured that the council leaders would work in line with policies designed to foster peace and development.
The newly sworn-in officials are expected to resume duties immediately in their respective councils, marking the commencement of a new administrative tenure at the grassroots level in Rivers State.
