What Are Our Leaders Doing About Reports of Alleged Infiltration by Displaced Armed Groups into the South-South and South-East?

There are emerging reports and intelligence suggesting that armed groups displaced from parts of Zamfara and Sokoto states may be moving into the South-East and South-South regions, allegedly using forested and riverine areas as temporary hideouts while studying the terrain and gathering information.

Against this backdrop, we are urging ethnic nationalities in the South-South and South-East, particularly the Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Edo, Ikwerre, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi people, among others, to remain united and vigilant in the face of evolving security challenges.

We are therefore stressing further the need for communities across the regions to strengthen local security architecture and prevent the criminal elements from gaining a foothold or destabilising the area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

To this end, forest and riverine communities in the Niger Delta must reinforce security measures and establish effective surveillance systems in collaboration with recognised local vigilante groups and relevant security agencies. We are also calling for stricter monitoring of movement into and out of communities across the Niger Delta and the South-East.

We must understand that proactive measures and heightened vigilance remain essential in safeguarding lives and property in our regions.

Ijaw Nation! To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
