Nigeria is bleeding.
It is heartbreaking that innocent children some as young as 2 to 6 years old are now becoming victims of kidnapping across the country. Children who should be in school, playing with friends, and enjoying the love of their families are instead being taken away by criminals. Recent reports have highlighted cases where toddlers and very young children were abducted during attacks on schools and communities in northern Nigeria.
This is more than insecurity; it is a tragedy against humanity. Imagine the fear in the eyes of a little child who cannot even understand why they are being taken away from their parents. Imagine the pain of mothers and fathers crying day and night, praying for the safe return of their children. No nation should allow its youngest and most innocent citizens to live under such terror.
Reports in recent months show that kidnappers have attacked schools, orphanages, and communities, taking children including toddlers. In one recent attack in Borno State, dozens of children were abducted from schools and homes. Another report confirmed the rescue of children kidnapped from an orphanage in Kogi State.
The future of Nigeria is under attack when children cannot sleep safely, attend school freely, or play without fear. A country that fails to protect its children risks losing its hope for tomorrow.
The government and security agencies must act urgently. Communities must remain vigilant. Religious leaders, parents, schools, and citizens must continue to raise their voices until this evil ends. Every child deserves protection, love, education, and freedom.
We cannot normalize the kidnapping of babies and little children. We must speak up. We must demand action. We must protect Nigeria’s children.
