In a letter dated April 15 and addressed to Ibas, Collins Wobo Chukwu, coordinator of the Ward Chairmen Forum of the PDP, said the sole administrator’s action is “unlawful, unconstitutional, and deeply troubling”.

“It has come to our notice that you have proceeded to make and endorse a series of appointments into local governments across the state without lawful authority and in flagrant violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter reads.

“These actions are not only null and void but constitute an affront to democracy, the rule of law, and the will of the people of Rivers State.”

Chukwu said, “in a case between the attorney-general of Abia state v. the attorney-general of the federation (SC/CV/343/2023), the supreme court held that the practice of appointing unelected persons to administer the affairs of local governments is a breach of the constitution and must not be tolerated in a constitutional democracy”.

He said the court also ruled that any law or action that permits the dissolution of democratically elected local government councils and their replacement with caretaker committees is null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.

“Your actions, therefore, constitute a direct violation of these binding judgments and are tantamount to contempt of court and a usurpation of democratic authority,” Chukwu said.

“Additionally, your continued disobedience to the laws duly enacted by the Rivers State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule — who has been affirmed by the Supreme Court as the authentic Speaker of the Assembly — is a grave affront to constitutional governance.

“Your refusal to implement these laws not only undermines the authority of a legitimately constituted legislative body but also constitutes a dangerous defiance of the rule of law and judicial pronouncements.”

Chukwu asked Ibas to rescind all appointments he has made so far.

He also demanded full compliance with the supreme court ruling on LG and alignment of subsequent actions with the constitution.

Chukwu added that the forum would take “legal and political remedies to defend the democratic rights of the people” if Ibas failed to comply with its demands.

In July 2024, the supreme court ruled that the federal government should pay allocations directly to local government councils from the federation account.

The apex court also held that the federal government could withhold allocations of LGs governed by unelected officials.

SOLIDARITY MESSAGE TO THE GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, SIR SIMINALAYI FUBARA GSSRS

Your Excellency,

We, the immediate past Local Government Chairmen of Rivers State, stand in unwavering solidarity with you in this trying time, despite the unfortunate declaration of a State of Emergency in our beloved State.

We recognize and commend your dedication to the development, peace, and security of our dear State, as demonstrated by the numerous pro-people projects you have executed. These projects have significantly contributed to the stability and progress being enjoyed by the good people of Rivers State.

Your robust and cordial relationship with the security agencies domiciled in Rivers State, ocassioned by the numerous logistical support provided by your administration, culminated into the sustained peace, harmony and security enjoyed by residents of Rivers State.

Following the Supreme Court judgment of February 28, 2025, we, as law-abiding citizens, dutifully obeyed your directive to hand over to the Heads of Local Government Administration in our respective LGAs, in compliance with the court’s decision. It is, therefore, deeply disheartening that persons with ulterior motives will intentionally misinform Mr. President, claiming that you failed to obey the Supreme Court’s ruling when, in reality, you have consistently demonstrated respect for the rule of law.

Additionally, in furtherance to the compliance of the Supreme Court's judgement, your relentless efforts to present the 2025 budget to the House of Assembly, which was unfortunately frustrated by individuals who chose to put personal and political interests above the well-being of Rivers people, was clearly seen by all Nigerians. Despite these setbacks, your determination to serve the state with integrity remains evident to all.

In light of these challenges, we, along with the vast majority of Rivers people—both politically affiliated and non-affiliated—stand solidly behind you. We remain steadfast in our support and await your directive on the way forward for the peace, progress, and stability of Rivers State.

Your Excellency, Nigerians and the World at large see you as a leader who stood firm for justice, development, and the security of Rivers State.

Long live Rivers State
Long live our Governor, Sir SIMINALAYI FUBARA GSSRS

NATIONAL SECURITY: GOV. FUBARA HANDS OVER RIVERS HELICOPTER TO NAF

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has transfered Rivers State's ownership of her AW 139 helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in furtherance of his administration's commitment to providing necessary support and collaboration towards securing lives and guaranteeing enabling environment for investments in Rivers and the Niger Delta.

Gov. Fubara who handed the aircraft to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Bala Abubakar, at the NAF Base, Port Harcourt, Wednesday, March 5, 2025, also disclosed that Rivers State Government is resurfacing the runway at the airbase among other support by his administration.

Gov. Fubara told stakeholders that as the governor of the State he is incidentally a member of a Committee saddled with ensuring that critical assets of Federal Government domicile in the Niger Delta are secured for enhanced operations and effectiveness.

"As part of that responsibility, we are required to provide basic support, of logistics for effective operations, not just for the Nigerian Air Force, but to the Army, Navy, Police and the DSS.

He said due to such responsibility when he received the request from the Chief of Air Staff declaring interest in the AW 139 helicopter for security operations, his government did not hesitate to donate it to the Nigerian Air Force.

According to him the AW 139 helicopter was left in the NAF Bas for so many years when the contractor that Rivers State Government leased it to, failed to remit anything which necessitated the government to retrieve the helicopter from the said contractor and kept at the NAF Base.

The governor said the request of the Chief of Air Staff was brought before the Executive Council and it was agreed that the success of the Air Force in securing critical assets is paramount in bolstering oil production which also means improved revenue for Rivers State and subsequently approved the request, stressing that it is also to support Mr. President's cause of ensuring increased oil production level for the country.

"So, what we are doing today is not politics. This is a sincere commitment to support the operations and the success of Nigeria. Our only expectation is that this donation should be adequately and effectively deployed to secure lives, assets and majorly operations in Rivers and Niger Delta at large.

Gov. Fubara noted that his government is not limiting the support to the donation, but has undertaken the rehabilitation of the runway at the airbase and other development ventures.

"From this hour, this facility belongs to the Nigerian Air Force. We are not going back on it, we will continue to do more to provide support. We have been faced with the situation where we donate security boats and at the end it is not used to secure the lives of our people.

"About two or three weeks ago we were embarrassed that the Inspector General of Police had to donate some security boats for the security of our waterway, especially the Bonny waterway.

"I know, not just my administration, even the previous administration made significant donations of gunboats for securing of waterways. So, please ensure while you also use it to do other things let's be focused in Rivers State."

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, described the governor's gesture as "yet another milestone in our collective quest to enhance the safety and security of our beloved country."

He expressed deep gratitude to the Rivers State Government for its consistent support and dedication to the wellbeing of men and officers of the Nigerian Air Force for over six decades that they have been in Rivers State.

According to him, "Strong partnership with government and civil institutions such as this generous handover of the AW 139 helicopter by the Rivers State Government exemplifies the collaborative approach needed to strengthen national security."

On the value added by the donation, he said, "The helicopter will significantly enhance our operational capacity, particularly the tactical air lift, search and rescues as well as disaster relief missions.

Air Marshal Abubakar stated that with the helicopter's advanced avionics, high speed capabilities and versatility it will improve their ability to conduct rapid response operations and humanitarian activities.

He said,"The Nigerian Air Force has already commenced comprehensive training programmes for our pilots, engineers and technicians to ensure the optimal utilisation of this helicopter," assuring that they are already strengthening their maintenance infrastructure to guarantee the sustainability and serviceability of the helicopter.

The Air Chief revealed that Nigeria has witnessed increase in crude oil output reflecting the effectiveness of the ongoing efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and noted that the Nigerian Air Force remains fully committed to collaborating with other security agencies to continue to safeguard the nation's vital resources and ensure the security and stability of the maritime domain.

On his part, the Air Officer, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice-Marshal E.O.E Ebiowe commended the governor of Rivers State for sustaining the partnership between the government of Rivers State and the Nigerian Air Force.

He noted that over the years such collaboration has been instrumental in enhancing the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Air Force especially through the government's provision of suitable accommodations for the air personnel and the facilitation of effective air operations from the Port Harcourt NAF base.

According to him, "The handover of AW139 helicopter comes at a pivotal moment when the Nigerian Air Force is expanding its operational reach and effectiveness.

The highlight of the event was the signing of the document for the AW139 Helicopter and the presentation of the Executive Council extract approving the donation. Thereafter, Gov. Siminalayi Fubara was accompanied by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar and other dignitaries to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation of the runway.

If you thought Nigerian politics couldn’t get any funnier, Martin Amaewhule and his committee of defectors just proved you wrong!

After their infamous defection came back to hunt them, these guys have been working overtime, telling anyone who cares to listen (or doesn’t) that they never left PDP. Imagine o!

In court, they’ve been sweating bullets, doing everything possible to block video and photo evidence that clearly shows them at those famous “defection jamborees.” Where they were all dancing, smiling, and carrying APC flags!

But today, it wasn't business as usual...

The court didn’t just accept the evidence; it played everything for all to see!

If you were there, you’d pity them. Faces dropped, whispers spread, and confusion was written all over.

Meanwhile, their supporters have been having sleepless nights.

WhatsApp groups are on fire as they scramble to “analyze” their way out of this mess. But we know opposition wahala is like further mathematics!

At this point, it’s clear: their defection was not just a political blunder but a permanent ticket to irrelevance in this dispensation. The truth is out now, and the videos don’t lie.

One lesson for us all: in politics, if you’re going to defect as a state House of Assembly member, be ready to own it or be ready for your home video premiere in court.
