"THE MIND ONCE ENLIGHTENED CANNOT AGAIN BECOME DARK." ~ Thomas Paine

Undoubtedly, investing in our children's lives through quality education is fundamental, if not the only way to ensure a better society and a sustainable future.

On June 28th, 2022, the Akpan Daniel Foundation achieved another milestone of success at Nung Ita Community Secondary School, Ikot Ibritam, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, where the students were enlightened and educated about social vices and mental health challenges such as depression, su***de, drug abuse, etc.

Our discussions also focused on the roles that young people can play in eradicating social vices and in promoting good mental health habits in schools and society, proper use of social media as well as donations of educational support materials to help fulfill their right to quality education and equip them for the future.

The ADF Team is committed to exposing and broadening our young people's horizons so that they can become self-reliant, explore independently, aspire, and write their own narrative of the possible, thereby contributing to a better and sustainable society for all.

We are dedicated to providing solutions and raising awareness through our educational programs in order to empower our young ones to take charge of their aspirations and contribute to making society a better place for all.

Why? Because "the mind, once enlightened, cannot again become dark."

Mental Health for All

Almost one million people die due to su***de every year. Su***de is the third leading cause of death among young people.

Depression is the leading cause of years lost due to disability worldwide.

Mental health problems, including alcohol abuse, are among the ten leading causes of disability in both developed and developing countries.

In particular, depression is ranked third in the global burden of disease, and is projected to rank first in 2030.

The economic cost of mental health problems is substantial, yet sensible investments in mental health can improve people's mental health.

Poor mental health is both a cause and effect of poverty, inadequate education, gender inequity, illness, violence, and other worldwide issues.

It hinders the individual's ability to work productively, reach their potential, and contribute to society.

The World Mental Health Month aims to address mental health issues in an empathetic way, with a unifying voice, helping everyone to feel hopeful by empowering everyone to take action and to create lasting change.

In line with the United Nations mental health awareness campaigns, the Akpan Daniel Foundation is addressing and educating young people about mental health issues that affect their growth and, ultimately, society's progress.

By providing advice on how to enhance their own mental health and encouraging them to do so, we hope to create an inclusive society in which everyone may thrive.

No doubt, education is the most effective way of attaining sustainable development.

It is true that if we know better, we will do better.

Thatā€™s why, at the Akpan Daniel Foundation, we are committed to instilling educational values in our young ones to enable a world where we can experience peaceful coexistence and a community void of social vices.

It is our goal to eliminate social vices or at least bring them to their barest minimum in the communities where we operate.

On the 24th of March 2022, we created another avenue to achieve this goal at the community secondary school, Uruk Ata 2.

We can create tomorrow today to save ourselves from the unpleasant surprises of tomorrow.

Investing in a child's education is one of the most effective ways to change our society.

Our investments continue to generate high returns even after we are no more.

It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education. Those who do not believe this have small imaginations.

At the Akpan Daniel Foundation, we are focused on empowering young people with the mental tools needed to be productive and self-reliant, thus fostering the acceleration of national development and shunning of social vices.

Stay in touch with us as we lead a campaign to promote good education and to raise awareness of social vices among young people.

Our campaign is focused on eradicating social vices. It will also feature school fee grants, donations of educational materials, and sensitization programs on the dangers of social vices, among other things.

Education, we believe, has the potential to reduce social vices. When young people are not given direction, they are prone to bad influence from their peers. The resultant effect is a polluted society that is unsafe for everyone.
