September 23, 2017, Prime Initiative organized a heartfelt outreach program themed "Save a Sole" in Iyokpe Village, Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, Nigeria. This project was inspired by the dire need we observed among children in the community who had no footwear to protect their feet. Many of the children roamed barefoot, exposing them to injuries and infections, and their stories brought tears to our eyes.
As students with limited resources, our team members pooled funds and solicited support from kind-hearted individuals to make a difference. Despite the constraints, we were able to purchase and distribute 200 pairs of slippers to the children and their families. Witnessing the joy and gratitude on their faces was a profoundly moving experience, reinforcing the importance of compassion and collective effort.
The project not only met a practical need but also sparked a sense of hope and belonging in the community. It was a defining moment for our organization, birthing a greater mission to serve the less privileged and bring smiles to those in need.
• Hearing that some children had never owned a pair of slippers before was a powerful reminder of the disparities in our society.
• The campaign echoed a poignant question: "How many shoes do you have? Are you aware that there are some without even one?"
• This initiative reaffirmed our commitment to be agents of change, no matter how modest our resources might be.
This project marked the beginning of a lifelong mission for Prime Initiative. It is another opportunity this year to extend our hands to others, making a tangible impact and putting smiles on more faces.
Let’s continue the legacy of love and service. Join us to spread hope and kindness, one project at a time.
