âđż The overwhelming number and geographic spread of applications we received for the Wedging Justice Human Rights Mechanism Training is both deeply moving and deeply saddening.
It is moving because of the trust you placed in us through your applications, and because we witnessed the remarkable work being undertaken relentlessly across the continent. What springs to mind is the image of a vast fellowship of Human Rights Defenders raising their sails; choosing duty, choosing dignity, choosing life, even as the tempest of hate rages around them.
It is also saddening because it forces us to confront the reality of limited resources and how this translates into limited access to opportunities for the many activists eager to learn, build, and strategise; to become better equipped to advance justice and dignity across our communities.
The gap between the scale of our vision and the resources available to support it remains daunting. Yet our hearts do not waver. If anything, we leave this process with greater assurance that the future of q***r and feminist justice in Africa remains alive, brimming with possibility, and carried forward by the many people who rise each day and choose life.
To everyone who applied, thank you. Whether or not you were selected, you remain indispensable to the struggle for justice on our continent. We look forward to future opportunities to learn from you, collaborate with you, and continue building the futures we deserve togetherâ€ïž
