As climate challenges intensify, the need for locally driven, youth-focused interventions has never been more urgent and to tackle this, Forward Africa Initiative is redefining climate education at the grassroots level through its dynamic EcoVanguard School Club, an innovative platform designed to nurture environmentally conscious youth leaders.
At Government Secondary School, Owerri, this initiative is already sparking a wave of transformation among students.
In a strategic move to deepen climate change awareness before the close of the last academic term, members of the EcoVanguard School Club were given a compelling take-home assignment: develop a project proposal addressing real climate change challenges within their local communities.
This was not just another school task it was an opportunity for students to think critically, act locally, and propose scalable solutions to issues such as flooding, waste management, deforestation, and environmental pollution.
Students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose.
Their excitement reflected a growing awareness that they are not too young to influence environmental outcomes.
Now, as schools resume for the third term, anticipation is high.
Forward Africa is set to receive a range of innovative, youth-driven climate solutions ideas that could shape future interventions and community-based environmental actions.
Forward Africa’s EcoVanguard model represents a scalable, community-rooted approach to climate education and youth engagement.
By equipping students with knowledge, problem-solving skills, and leadership opportunities.
We invites climate funders, development partners, and environmental actors to support and scale initiatives like EcoVanguard—programs that are not only educating young people but empowering them to lead change in their communities.
