[THROWBACK,
REPUBLISHED FEBRUARY 9, 2026.]
FORMAL PRESENTATION OF FACTS BY NZE NA OZO AMAIGBO TO THE NWANGELE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL COMMITTEE INSTITITUED TO INVESTIGATE THE CONTROVERSIES AND RANCOUR SURROUNDING THE EKEUKWU AMAIGBO MARKET.
OWNERSHIP:
The Ekeukwu Ancestral Market is an inviolable communal endowment, immemorially vested in, and collectively owned by, the Thirty-Two (32) Villages that constitute the primordial and historic Amaigbo Ancient Kingdom.
In strict consonance with ancestral ordinances, each village is customarily allocated a consecrated and non-derogable portion within the market precincts, traditionally denominated as "Odu Ahia".
Moreover, the Obi Nze Na Ozo Amaigbo, together with the primordial deities and numinous gods of the land, collectively known as "Ekemigbo", have, from pre-historic antiquity and beyond the reach of recorded chronology, been permanently domiciled within the sacred spatial confines of the Ekeukwu Market, thereby consecrating it as both a commercial and metaphysical epicentre of Amaigbo civilization.
CONTROL:
By the immutable canons of Amaigbo native law, customary jurisprudence, and ancestral praxis, the Nze Na Ozo Amaigbo—being the most venerable and sacrosanct traditional institution extant within Amaigbo—has, ab initio and without historical interruption, exercised sovereign custodianship, ritual oversight, and administrative superintendence over the Ekeukwu Market.
Such control has been exercised not as an act of proprietary absolutism, but as a sacred fiduciary trusteeship held in perpetuity for the collective welfare, heritage preservation, and generational continuity of the Amaigbo Ancient Kingdom, the institution standing as the ultimate custodian of Amaigbo’s cultural ontology, customary norms, ancestral ethos, and traditional legitimacy.
ROLE OF AMAIGBO TOWN UNION, USA INC:
Amaigbo Town Union USA Inc undertook the renovation and reconstruction of the Ekeukwu Market purely as an act of philanthropic benevolence and diasporic altruism, conceived as a voluntary, self-abnegating contribution to communal development and ancestral upliftment.
Such intervention was neither intended nor executed as a vehicle for proprietary acquisition, commercial exploitation, or juridical dominion over the market, but strictly as a goodwill gesture toward their ancestral homeland.
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING(M.O.U), AND
DEVELOPERS:
We categorically, unequivocally, and without mental reservation disclaim any knowledge, awareness, or cognizance of the identity of any purported developers allegedly connected to the Ekeukwu Market project.
We further state, with emphatic finality, that we are neither privy to, participants in, nor consenting parties to any purported Memorandum of Understanding alleged to have been executed with such developers. Any such document, claim, or representation is entirely extraneous to us, lacking our authorization, concurrence, ratification, or customary legitimacy.
HRH EZE NELSON NWOSU IGBO OF AMAIGBO:
While we accord profound reverence, institutional respect, and traditional deference to the Traditional Ruler of Amaigbo Ancient Kingdom, it is imperative to state, with crystalline clarity, that at no time whatsoever did His Royal Highness consult, solicit, or secure the consent, approbation, or collective mandate of the Clan Heads and the Thirty-Two (32) Village Heads of Amaigbo Ancient Kingdom prior to entering into any Memorandum of Understanding with any developers in respect of the Ekeukwu Ancestral Market.
Under Amaigbo’s customary constitutional framework, the Traditional Ruler is neither a solitary sovereign nor an autocratic authority and is therefore wholly incompetent to unilaterally authorize, sanction, or consummate any transaction whatsoever relating to Ekeukwu Market land without the express concurrence of the traditional collective.
However, it is within our reliable understanding that His Royal Highness merely assented to the renovation of the Ekeukwu Market when Amaigbo Town Union USA Inc voluntarily proposed to undertake such renovation.
It is further our firm and unequivocal understanding that His Royal Highness neither approved nor endorsed the sale, alienation, or commercial commodification of shops or spaces within the Ekeukwu Market.
DESECRATION OF OBI NZE NA OZO AND GODS OF THE LAND DOMICILED INSIDE THE EKEUKWU AMAIGBO MARKET:
We register our strongest condemnation, profound outrage, and unmitigated abhorrence at the sacrilegious desecration, obliteration, and violation of the Obi Nze Na Ozo Amaigbo and the ancestral deities of the land domiciled within the Ekeukwu Market.
These institutions constitute the metaphysical nucleus, ritual epicentre, and ancestral sanctum of Amaigbo spiritual identity.
Accordingly, we issue an uncompromising and irrevocable demand for their immediate, complete, and dignified restoration at and within the market precincts. On this existential matter, no concession, negotiation, or dilution shall be entertained.
NAME AND IDENTITY OF THE MARKET:
The authentic, historical, and inviolable appellation of the market remains EKEUKWU AMAIGBO MARKET.
We categorically repudiate, reject, and denounce any attempt, whether overt or surreptitious, to adulterate, distort, or rechristen the market under any alternative nomenclature whatsoever, including but not limited to “ATU-USA PLAZA ” or “EKEUKWU AMAIGBO ATU-USA PLAZA,” such attempts being an affront to history, a violation of custom, and an assault on communal identity.
PEACE AND WAY FORWARD:
In the supreme interest of communal tranquility, social equilibrium, and sustainable coexistence, we unequivocally demand a formal, public, and institutional reaffirmation that ownership of the Ekeukwu Ancestral Market remains perpetually vested in the Amaigbo Ancient Kingdom and its Thirty-Two (32) constituent villages.
We further insist upon the unqualified restoration of the Obi Nze Na Ozo Amaigbo and the ancestral deities within the market as a non-negotiable precondition for enduring peace and reconciliation.
THE PURPORTED COMMISSIONING AND/OR UNVEILING OF EKEUKWU MARKET ON DECEMBER 27TH & 29TH, 2025:
We categorically demand the immediate suspension and postponement of the purported unveiling and commissioning of the Ekeukwu Ancestral Market scheduled for December 27 and 29, 2025, pending the exhaustive resolution of all extant disputes, litigations, and unresolved controversies pertaining to the market.
We hereby declare, without equivocation, our unwavering resolve to resist any attempt to proceed with the unveiling on the stated dates under the prevailing unresolved circumstances.
We extend our profound gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma, CON, and to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for their conscientious interventions in this deeply consequential matter.
We equally convey our sincere appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Nwangele Local Government Council, Chief Paul Duru, as well as the Chairman, Secretary, and distinguished members of this august investigative committee for their diligence, impartiality, and institutional commitment.
We so submit.
Signed:
