Today we celebrate Nashlie Sephus . She is an American computer engineer, artificial intelligence specialist, and tech equity advocate from Jackson, Mississippi. A graduate of Mississippi State University (B.S., Electrical Engineering) and Georgia Tech (Ph.D., Electrical and Computer Engineering), she formerly served as CTO of startup Partpic—acquired by Amazon in 2016—where she now works as the Applied Science Manager for Amazon’s AI and machine learning team.

Beyond her career in tech, Sephus is the founder and CEO of The Bean Path, a nonprofit organization based in Jackson that provides tech access, education, and infrastructure to underserved communities. She is also leading a major redevelopment project to transform 12 acres of land in downtown Jackson into a technology and innovation district.

Nashlie Sephus is reshaping what’s possible for Black communities in STEM and is passionately building the future of inclusive tech.

Today, we spotlight Onleilove Chika Alston (HER Wisdom Consulting)
a Faith-rooted Pan-Africanist, scholar, social worker, and educator whose powerful work bridges Africa and the diaspora.

Born and raised in East New York, Brooklyn, Onleilove brings over 17 years of nonprofit leadership and 13+ years of organizing experience to communities across the U.S. and internationally. Her Igbo heritage, traced through DNA and embraced by cultural institutions in Nigeria, deeply informs her mission and message.

Author of Prophetic Whirlwind: Uncovering the Black Biblical Destiny, Onleilove has lived in Ghana, studied Jewish communities across Africa and the Middle East, and launched , which supports over 40 African Jewish and diaspora synagogues and NGOs.

She teaches at Columbia University, Union Theological Seminary, and more, shaping conversations on justice, spirituality, and African identity. She’s also been appointed to key civic roles in NYC and has spoken at the United Nations on Black women, faith, and incarceration.

Her life is a testament to reconciliation, restoration, and rootedness.

Emma Rashidi Kawawa is a trailblazing Tanzanian leader with over 30 years of experience in public and private sector management. She is the Founder and CEO of Tanzania Women CEOs Roundtable (TWCR) and Entango Investments Ltd, and currently serves as Vice Chairperson of Women Arise Africa and Country Director for New Faces New Voices (Graca Machel Trust Network), among other regional and global roles.

A passionate advocate for women’s economic empowerment, Emma sits on numerous boards and leads initiatives focused on agribusiness, innovation, and inclusive leadership. Her motto, “Lifting others as we climb,” reflects her deep commitment to transformation and legacy-building for women and youth across Africa.

Meet Our Guest Speaker: Professor Verene Shepherd
Historian | UN Expert | Reparations Advocate

Professor Verene Shepherd is a globally respected historian, activist scholar, and United Nations human rights expert. She is Professor Emerita at The University of the West Indies and served as Chair of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination — the first Black woman in the African diaspora to hold the post.

She is also Vice Chair of the CARICOM Reparations Commission and a passionate advocate for historical justice, gender equity, and reparatory justice for people of African descent. A prolific author, sought-after speaker, and the former Director of the Centre for Reparation Research, her work continues to influence policies and minds across continents.

Join us as she brings her insight and vision to the panel on “Reclaiming What’s Owed: African Women Advancing the Global Reparations Agenda.”
