Preparation for Community Advocacy and Sensitization on Family Life and Health Education (FLHE)

The Imo State FLHE State Team held a preparatory meeting with Education Secretaries from Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) ahead of the Community Advocacy and Sensitization activities under the UNESCO O3 Programme.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination, clarifying roles, and preparing the Education Secretaries to support effective community-level sensitization on Family Life and Health Education.

The engagement is aimed at strengthening awareness among parents, caregivers, and community stakeholders on the importance of supporting adolescents with appropriate information, guidance, and a safe environment for healthy growth and development.

Through strong collaboration between education stakeholders and communities, we can advance the effective implementation of FLHE and contribute to the health, wellbeing, and protection of young people across Imo State.

THE STAGE IS SET. THE QUESTION IS IMPORTANT. AND TOMORROW, THE DEBATE BEGINS!

When it comes to preparing young people for life, who truly carries the greater responsibility?

Who should take the lead in providing the knowledge, values, guidance, and skills young people need to navigate growing up?

Is it the parents, who are a child’s first teachers?
Or the schools, where young people receive structured education and guidance?

Tomorrow, we bring these perspectives to the table for a powerful and thought-provoking conversation:

“Who Has the Greater Responsibility for Teaching Family Life and Health Education: Parents or Schools?”

Join us as we challenge assumptions, hear different perspectives, and explore what it really means to prepare young people for healthy, safe, and responsible lives.
