Ikukuoma Foundation Set to Crown Champions at Owerri Zonal Tournament Final, August 31

The stage is set for the grand finale of the Ikukuoma Mbaise Owerri Zonal Tournament, as the curtain falls on weeks of exciting grassroots football in Imo State. The closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Ezeagbogu Central School Field, Ezinihitte Mbaise.

The day’s activities will kick off with the third-place playoff at 11:00 a.m., featuring Ogbe Ward 1 against Uvuru Ward 1. The climax of the competition follows at 1:00 p.m., when Okpofe Ezeagbogu faces off with Ibeku Okwuato in what promises to be a thrilling final.

The tournament, which has provided a platform for young talents across the zone, is the brainchild of High Chief Dr. Summers VC Nwokie (Ikukuoma 1 of Mbaise) and enjoys sponsorship from Hon. TPM Amb. Chidiebere Nwanevu.

In recognition of outstanding performances, prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st Position: ₦7,000,000

2nd Position: ₦5,000,000

3rd Position: ₦3,000,000

Best Behaved Team: ₦500,000

Highest Goal Scorer: ₦100,000

Most Valuable Player (MVP): ₦100,000

Best Goalkeeper: ₦100,000

Plus other consolation prizes.

The tournament has not only fostered unity and sportsmanship among the wards but also reinforced the foundation’s commitment to grassroots development in Mbaise and beyond.

Excitement Builds as Quarter Finals Kick Off in the 30 Million Naira Ikukuoma Mbaise Owerri Zonal Football Tournament.

The spotlight returns to Ezeagbogu Central School Field, Ezinihitte Mbaise, as the Quarter Final stage of the 30 Million Naira Ikukuoma Mbaise Owerri Zonal Football Tournament kicks off in grand style this weekend.

This community centered football tournament, which has rapidly become one of the most prestigious and rewarding sporting events in Imo State, will witness eight outstanding teams battle for a coveted place in the semi-finals.

Quarter-Final Match Schedule:

Saturday, 5th July 2025

2:00 PM – Ogbe Ward 1 vs Ezi East All Stars

4:00 PM – Okpofe/Ezeagbogu vs Okwuato

Sunday, 6th July 2025

2:00 PM – Okpala FC vs Ibeku Okwuato

4:00 PM – Uvuru Ward 1 vs Ohii

The tournament, which boasts a ₦30 million prize pool, is proudly powered by High Chief Dr. Summers VC Nwokie (Ikukuoma Mbaise) a renowned philanthropist and advocate for youth and community development. NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY DAY 2025; Indeed a time reflect

True democracy centers on the welfare and participation of the people in decision making. It goes further to offer freedom of expression and several other rights, which are enshrined in the constitution for authenticity.

In Nigeria today, we underwent a lot of turbulence to achieve the enthronement of democracy in the country. Can we beat our chest and say that we are enjoying all the benefits of democracy? The answer is an obvious no. The "why's and "hows" are not the import of the subject matter here.

As the nation marks it's Democracy day today, we the people must endeavour to utilize our powers in safeguarding our hard fought democracy in words and actions, to stem the tide of the downturn as is being witnessed lately. We must make our voices heard, we must make our expressions felt, especially via the ballot.

Having said that, the new electoral laws and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines gives zero tolerance to election riggings and malpractices, so our votes must count this time.

On this very day, as we remember the efforts of our democracy heroes dead and alive, we must not let their labours be in vain. We must protect and guard our democracy with all our hearts and strength, and this is very possible through the ballot.

Nigeria will rise again, if we, the people, rise up to our responsibilities.
