I'm delighted to share an exclusive preview of my upcoming novel.
The Move
“Afolabi, are you for real? You can’t be serious! Are you crazy or something?” Bolanle exclaimed, her frustration and disbelief evident in her voice.
“You mean you want to make a lady you met and wedded barely three years ago the main applicant? Are you out of your senses?”
Afolabi sighed as he paced back and forth in the small living room in Bariga, Lagos. At the same time, he kept glancing towards the gate to see if Yetunde had returned from where she had gone to grind the pepper she wanted to use to make stew.
“Sister mi,” as Afolabi usually called his older sister, “you need to calm down. It is not what you think. We have given this a deep thought, and it is logical that Yetunde is made the main applicant so I can be the dependant. This will give me a free hand to switch jobs rather than being restricted to the care job for the next five years.”
“Logical? Did I hear you say logical? Oh, you think it’s logical to hand over all control to Yetunde? Have you not heard the stories making waves abroad? Women change when they get to the Western world. They become unrecognisable!” Bolanle’s frank words were like daggers thrust through a speakerphone.
“Sister mi, listen to me,” said Afolabi, desperately trying hard to steady his voice. “Yetunde is not like that. We’ve been through a lot together. She is a born-again, fervent, and devoted Christian. I can vouch for her; nothing can ever change her.”
What happened next? Stay tuned for more from this gripping story.
