Caring Hands International Senior Citizens' Hangout
Osogbo | April 14, 2026
Venue: Joint Heirs Coop Building along Dada Estate, Osogbo
On the 14th of April 2026, Caring Hands International hosted a vibrant hangout for older persons in Osogbo. It was a beautiful time of connection, networking, storytelling, and relationship-building that left everyone refreshed and encouraged.
At the start of the program, an opening prayer was said to commit the event into God’s hands.
Mrs. Fehintola Obilomo, Executive Director of the Organization, then gave her welcome address. She briefly introduced the organization and urged everyone to stay till the end and savor every moment.
Gentle Warm-Up Session
The day began with light warming-up exercises led by one of our coaches by name Afolabi. The older persons were guided through simple stretches and movements to get the body active, improve circulation, and boost mood. They were encouraged to continue these gentle exercises at home from time to time to support mobility and overall wellness.
Health Talk: Understanding Diabetes
The highlight of the day was an insightful health lecture delivered by Dr. Ajetunmobi on Diabetes: Causes, Signs & Symptoms, Treatment, Prevention, and Complications. Dr. Ajetunmobi broke down the topic into simple, relatable terms and spoke in our local language so everyone could follow easily. The session empowered attendees with practical knowledge and the reassurance that healthy, fulfilling lives in old age are possible when the right steps and daily care are taken.
Free Health Checks
To put knowledge into action, our medical team provided free health screenings for all attendees:
• Blood pressure checks to monitor cardiovascular health
• Urinalysis to test for glucose and protein levels
• Weight and height measurements to calculate BMI and provide personalized guidance on nutrition and lifestyle
Each participant received one-on-one advice based on their results.
Couple on the Hot Seat: 54 Years of Marriage
A heartwarming segment featured Papa and Mama Ojelade, who have been married for 54 years. Placed on the “hot seat,” they shared wisdom, laughter, and the habits that have sustained their union. Their candid answers on communication, patience, and mutual respect gave younger attendees plenty to reflect on.
Fellowship Over Local Delicacies
No gathering is complete without food. We all enjoyed freshly made moinmoin and eko, served warm. Conversations flowed, old friends reconnected, and new bonds were formed over shared meals.
It was truly a beautiful time spent together — full of learning, laughter, movement, and care. Caring Hands International remains committed to promoting dignity, health, and community for our senior citizens.
