EMPOWERING CHOICES, PROTECTING FUTURES: HFDI OSUN PROMOTES FAMILY PLANNING AT OKINNI PHC

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI), Osun, conducted a family planning and reproductive health advocacy outreach at Okinni Primary Health Centre on 22 September 2026.

The session engaged pregnant women and other clients on healthy child spacing, contraceptive options, maternal health, childbirth preparedness, and reproductive hygiene, while addressing common myths and misconceptions about family planning.

Participants actively asked questions and received practical guidance on making informed reproductive health choices with support from qualified healthcare providers.

HFDI Osun remains committed to promoting accurate health information and strengthening community access to reproductive health services.

HFDI, ILO Strengthen ACCEL Africa II Implementation in Osun

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) reviewed progress and strengthened coordination for the ACCEL Africa Phase II Project in Osun State.

The technical meeting focused on skills training, apprenticeship opportunities, child labour prevention, upcoming activities, and implementation challenges across HFDI’s assigned communities.

HFDI also presented project IEC materials and videos for technical review, with ILO feedback to guide improvements and ensure alignment with project objectives.

The engagement concluded with agreed next steps to strengthen implementation and expand opportunities for adolescents across Osun State.

BUILDING SKILLS, STRENGTHENING FUTURES!

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI), under the ACCEL Africa Phase II Project, engaged the Osun State Board for Technical and Vocational Training to strengthen plans for vocational skills training for 70 adolescents.

The engagement focused on curriculum alignment, quality assurance, assessment, and technical support for the proposed six-month training.

Potential skills areas discussed include shoe making, catering and baking, tailoring, and hairdressing, with both parties identifying opportunities for collaboration and agreeing on a follow-up meeting to finalize implementation modalities.

Together, we are creating pathways for adolescents to gain practical skills and build sustainable futures.

HFDI STRENGTHENS ART ADHERENCE AMONG CALHIV IN MKPAT

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) conducted a Community-Enhanced Adherence Counselling (CEAC) activity in Mkpat, reaching three households with Children and Adolescents Living with HIV (CALHIV) who had unsuppressed viral load.

Through household visits, beneficiaries and caregivers received individualised adherence counselling, psychosocial support and health education. Key barriers identified included relocation without collecting ART medication and forgetfulness.

Caregivers were encouraged to support medication adherence, timely refills, regular clinic attendance and consistent engagement with HIV treatment services.

The activity strengthened household-level support and provided practical strategies to improve ART adherence and promote viral suppression among CALHIV.

HFDI STRENGTHENS YOUTH-FRIENDLY SRHR SERVICES IN ASA LGA

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) brought healthcare providers and community stakeholders together at Otte Oja Primary Health Centre, Asa LGA, Kwara State, to strengthen access to youth-friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.

The engagement brought together youth leaders, community leaders, CSOs, artisans, transport union representatives and healthcare workers to identify barriers affecting young people’s access to health services and develop practical solutions.

Stakeholders agreed on weekly youth-friendly service days every Thursday, intensified community sensitisation, stronger parental involvement, improved referrals and continued advocacy for skilled maternal healthcare.

The engagement reinforced the commitment to creating a welcoming, confidential and respectful healthcare environment where adolescents and young people can access essential SRHR services with confidence.

HFDI TAKES SRHR AWARENESS TO MARKET WOMEN IN ASA LGA

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI), in collaboration with healthcare workers from primary healthcare facilities, conducted a community market outreach in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State to strengthen awareness and access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.

The outreach reached 700 market women through shop-to-shop sensitisation and interactive discussions. Participants received practical information on family planning, cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination, maternal and newborn health, HIV and STI prevention, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, malaria, GBV, and youth-friendly services.

The engagement provided an opportunity for women to ask questions, clarify misconceptions and receive guidance on accessing appropriate services at nearby health facilities. Participants were encouraged to visit PHCs for further assessment and care and to share accurate health information within their communities.

The activity highlights the importance of taking health information and demand-creation services directly to communities, particularly busy market environments, while strengthening linkages between community members and healthcare facilities.

Through continued community engagement, HFDI is contributing to improved SRHR awareness, informed health decisions and increased utilisation of essential health services in Asa LGA.

Bridging the SRH Information and Service Gap in Oloru

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) engaged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), community representatives, and key stakeholders in Oloru to harmonize and disseminate accurate, culturally appropriate, and non-stigmatizing messages on integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services.

The engagement addressed misconceptions and promoted key information on family planning, maternal health, HIV/STI prevention, adolescent and youth-friendly services, and GBV prevention and response. Participants emphasized the importance of confidential and accessible health services, early and regular antenatal care, and seeking accurate SRH information from qualified health workers rather than relying on rumours.

The harmonized messages are already being shared through familiar community platforms, including Asalatu gatherings, compound meetings, religious gatherings, and other community forums, helping to extend accurate SRH information to more community members.
The engagement also highlighted service-access challenges.

The engagement reinforced the importance of combining effective health communication with accessible services, while strengthening community ownership and generating practical recommendations to improve SRH outcomes in Oloru.

ACOMIN Strengthens Facility-Level Advocacy for Tuberculosis Control in Osun

The Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Osun State, has strengthened its advocacy efforts to improve tuberculosis (TB) service delivery through a facility-level engagement at Asubiaro Hospital.

The engagement provided an opportunity to interact with healthcare personnel and gain firsthand insights into TB prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, referral, follow-up, and access to care.

Discussions focused on identifying barriers affecting timely TB detection and diagnosis, treatment completion, and effective linkage to appropriate services. Opportunities to strengthen collaboration between health facilities, communities, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders were also explored.

The engagement highlighted the importance of early TB identification, timely access to treatment, effective follow-up, and strong referral systems in improving treatment outcomes and reducing transmission within communities.

The insights gathered will support continued evidence-driven advocacy and stakeholder engagement aimed at addressing service delivery gaps and strengthening TB control interventions across Osun State.
