URBAN ALERT UNVEILS MINETRIX AI TO ACCELERATE OPEN DATA IN THE SOLID MINERAL SECTOR

Urban Alert has announced the launch of Minetrix AI, an artificial intelligence web-based solution that convert mining laws, licensing records, environmental filings, company reports and revenue datasets into plain-language answers with acknowledged sources. Designed for citizens, journalists, researchers, policymakers, and investors, Minetrix delivers fast, verifiable insights that move the mining sector from “data released” to data used.

Africa holds more than a third of the world’s known mineral reserves and sits at the heart of supply chains for critical minerals; yet vital information remains fragmented and inaccessible to citizens due to a lack of transparency and bureaucratic hurdles. Solid minerals information remains locked away from citizens and investors, making it slow and exclusionary to find the right information that would enable stakeholders and citizens to tap into the economic benefits which mining brings and the enforcement of environmental safeguards when local communities are suffering from mining. In Nigeria and other African countries, this opacity erodes public trust, weakens the enforcement of environmental safeguards, and discourages investors who require accurate and timely information to act responsibly. Minetrix AI addresses this gap by enabling users to ask natural-language questions and receive concise responses.

Minetrix AI searches only authoritative sources before providing an answer and records a timestamp to establish currency. This solution is privacy-first and aligns with Nigeria’s NDPA/NDPR and international best practices, featuring encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access, audit trails, and accessibility features that support mobile, low-bandwidth, and plain-language use.

At the launch, Anthony Adejuwon, Founder and Team Lead of Urban Alert, expressed that Minetrix AI is deployed to democratize the mineral and mining sector. “Communities, regulators, media and investors need clear, cited answers they can stand behind in a hearing, a newsroom or an investment committee. By anchoring every response to the source, we help decision-makers act with confidence and speed.”

This civic tech solution will strengthen civic participation and responsive institutions through mobile-first UX, suggested prompts, and indigenous language responses that enable natives to understand in detail, and filters that help first-time users turn questions into evidence-based requests. It is designed with consideration for user’s potential bandwidth challenges, featuring a special feature (Badger Pop) to retain users during network instability.

Urban Alert is engaging regulators, exchanges, universities, multilateral institutions, and private-sector partners to expand coverage and replicate the model across additional African jurisdictions, while providing a verification layer that global stakeholders can rely on for due diligence, compliance, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting.

URBAN ALERT TRANSITIONS TO URBAN LIFE: A NEW ERA OF CIVIC TECH FOR PUBLIC GOOD

Urban Alert today announced its evolution into Urban Life, a next-generation civic-tech and nonprofit organization, alongside a comprehensive Five-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2029) designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and service delivery across Nigeria and, progressively, the wider African region.

The shift from Urban Alert to Urban Life reflects an intentional evolution from simply raising alarms to building lasting improvements in people’s lives through citizens’ empowerment and purposeful engagement with governments.

Over five years, our work has expanded beyond giving voice to citizens. We have implemented impactful projects and mobilized citizens and other stakeholders to address critical socio-environmental issues. We have helped put citizen voice at the centre of governance, supporting freedom of information (FOI) compliance, driving social audits and citizen-government feedback loops, and advancing mineral resources accountability. The new name captures this broader, systems-change mandate: pairing responsible civic technology with frontline programmes to translate data into better services, safer environments, and inclusive opportunities. It preserves our accountability drive while signalling a future focused on thriving, resilient communities, now and for generations.

Urban Life’s plan is built on five interlocking pillars:
1. Promote Open Governance; Enable transparent, accountable public spending and service delivery through open data, FOI support and reform partnerships.
2. Build Capacity in Government; Equip officials with data, service design, and responsible AI skills to institutionalize openness and responsiveness.
3. Engage & Educate Citizens; Grow informed, diverse participation via low-bandwidth, multilingual tech channels and community programmes.
4. Develop Civic-Tech Tools; Design inclusive platforms that turn public data into action, with privacy-by-design and human-in-the-loop AI.
5. Collaborate with Civil Society; Build coalitions with CSOs, media, academia and the private sector to amplify advocacy and scale impact.

In the first year of the strategy period, the Urban Alert brand and all administrative tools will transition into Urban Life. This will include the logo, website, emails and other branding components. During the strategy period, Urban Life will launch and scale a suite of tools that will focus on its thematic areas: open governance, mineral accountability, and public service delivery.

The 5-year strategic plan directly advances SDG 16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions) and contributes to SDGs 6, 7, 9, and 13 through cleaner procurement, accessible digital infrastructure, more inclusive cities, and climate-aware governance.

“The government needs to begin to see Civil Society Organizations like Urban Alert as a partner and not as threat” - Anthony Adejuwon at the unveiling of Urban Alert’s strategic plan and launching of Minetrix AI, Linker and Watertight.
