The custodian of the crown has crossed over, answering the ancient call that binds rulers to their ancestors. The throne is silent, the palace holds its breath, and the land bows in reverence as his spirit journeys to the realm of those who ruled before him.

Today, the tides of the Imo River sing,
The winds carry songs only angels bring,
For a king was born whose light has shone,
Upon Opoboโ€™s throne, a gem, our own.

O Amanyanabo, wise and grand,
The pride and glory of our blessed land,
In you, the spirit of Jaja lives on,
A river of honor, eternally drawn.

Your crown is heavy with our prayers and trust,
Your heart beats pure, your judgments just,
You stand as a fortress, noble and free,
A guardian of our rich ancestry.

On this day, the drums of Opobo roar,
The sea offers pearls to your royal shore,
The heavens smile, the ancestors cheer,
As we lift our voices for you to hear.

May your days be long, your wisdom deep,
May your nights be calm, your harvests reap,
May strength and grace walk by your side,
As you lead Opobo with truth and pride.

Happy Birthday, O Great Jeki V!
Long may you reign, long may you thrive!

Opobo Kingdom is not just a place, it's a journey into Nigeria's rich history, culture, and traditions. At the center of this vibrant legacy is King Jaja of Opobo, a name that echoes resilience, innovation, and leadership. His extraordinary story was immortalized on a Nigerian postage stamp issued on October 1, 1964, celebrating him as one of the nation's most iconic historical figures.

The stamp, released to commemorate Nigeria's first anniversary as a republic, symbolizes the recognition of King Jajaโ€™s exceptional contributions to the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole. By featuring his image, the Nigerian government honored his legacy as a merchant prince who established Opobo as a thriving commercial hub in the 19th century. This stamp is more than a collectorโ€™s item, itโ€™s a tribute to his resistance against colonial exploitation and his vision for economic self-determination.

King Jaja rose from humble beginnings to establish himself as a leader of the Annie Pepple House in Bonny before founding the independent Opobo Kingdom in 1870. His foresight in controlling palm oil trade routes ensured that his people retained economic benefits, making Opobo a powerful player in international trade.

However, his resistance to British colonial interference led to his exile, a move that only solidified his place as a symbol of African defiance and leadership.

Opoboโ€™s timeless charm lies in its history, cultural festivals, and traditions passed down through generations.
