Easter Greetings from the President of Ondo South Advancement & Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA)

[email protected]

Dear Esteemed Members and Leaders of OSAWA,

Beloved People of Ondo South Senatorial District,

As we celebrate this glorious Easter season, I rejoice with you in the triumphant resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. On this blessed day, we remember with profound gratitude that He who was crucified for our sins has risen victoriously, conquering death and opening the door to eternal life and hope for all humanity.

The resurrection of Jesus is not only a declaration of victory but also the ultimate proof of God’s immeasurable love for us. Through His sacrifice on the cross, He demonstrated perfect love; a love that unites, forgives, heals, and restores.

His death and resurrection call us to emulate these virtues in our daily lives: to love one another unconditionally, to remain united in purpose, and to show kindness even in the face of challenges.
Just as Christ’s sacrifice brought reconciliation between God and man, let this Easter season inspire us to strengthen the bond of unity within OSAWA and across all of Ondo South. Let love be our guiding principle and kindness our daily language.

When we stand together in love and harmony, no obstacle is insurmountable, and every dream we have for the advancement and welfare of our people becomes achievable.

May the power of the resurrection fill your hearts with fresh hope, renewed strength, and unbreakable unity. May we continue to reflect the light of Christ by supporting one another, uplifting the vulnerable, and working collectively for the progress and development of our senatorial district.

On behalf of the Executive Council, Board of Trustees, and Advisory Council of the Ondo South Advancement & Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA), I wish you and your entire family a most blessed, peaceful, and joyful Easter celebration.

He is Risen!
Indeed, He is Risen!

President, OSAWA

A MESSAGE OF DEEP APPRECIATION TO THE PEOPLE OF ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT FOR YOUR TRUST AND SUPPORT

Exactly four years ago, on 7 March 2022, we were inaugurated and took the oath of office following our victory at the polls. We remain profoundly grateful to the people of Ondo South Senatorial District for electing us and entrusting us with the responsibility to serve the masses.

The vision, aims, objectives, and most especially the mission statement of the Association have remained our guiding resolve. This commitment continues to fuel our zeal to deliver more without betraying the trust reposed in us by the people, while always operating strictly within the provisions of our constitution.

We express our sincere appreciation to the Advisory Council; comprising Royal Father, Grand Patrons, Patrons, and Life Members for their invaluable guidance. We equally thank the Board of Trustees and the Congress (i.e., the General Members of the Association) for their unwavering support and cooperation at all times.

While I wish to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the Association under my leadership, I must first specially commend the Executive Council for the remarkable spirit of cooperation and unity that has prevailed among us. Unity is the foundation of progress, and it is this oneness that has enabled the tangible advancements we have collectively achieved.
On behalf of the current Executive Council, I formally accept the decision conveyed by the Congress which is the highest decision making body of the Association; at its sitting held on 14 February 2026. In their wisdom, the Congress resolved to extend the tenure of all serving members of the current Executive Council by thirty one months, This decision was informed by the fact that all aspirants who indicated interest in contesting various positions failed to comply with the electoral guidelines, particularly by not purchasing the required expression of interest and nomination forms within the stipulated timeframe.

We acknowledge and respect the belief held by many that these aspirants possess the requisite capacity and preparedness to lead the Association effectively. Nevertheless, the Congress, after due deliberation, highlighted the significant progress already recorded under the present leadership, the ongoing initiatives, and the promising projects in the pipeline. While we are mindful of the concerns raised by a minority of voices within the Association, the majority deemed it appropriate in the overriding interest of continuity and sustained development to grant this unexpected extension.

As a responsible Council, we have accepted this decision in good faith, placing the best interests of the Association and its members above all else. We remain committed to advancing the Association despite the demanding nature of the responsibilities involved, particularly given that these roles attract no salary or stipends whatsoever. Our service is driven purely by a passion for community development, humanitarian service, and the overall progress and welfare of Ondo South Senatorial District.

For the record, below are some of the major landmarks achieved within the past four years:

1. Establishment of a comprehensive data bank for the Association.
2. Acquisition and full furnishing of a spacious building to serve as the Secretariat, strategically located in the heart of Okitipupa.
3. Facilitation of various empowerment programmes for our people, made possible through the support of our esteemed leaders.
4. Provision of consistent financial giveaways, enabling numerous beneficiaries to establish small-scale businesses.
5. Award of academic support and scholarships to selected individuals.
6. Facilitation of 54 government employment opportunities and 27 private-sector jobs for our indigenes through the efforts and connections of our leaders both within and outside the senatorial district.
7. Acquisition of a permanent land/site in a centralised location in Okitipupa for the construction of a befitting Secretariat building. This was made possible by one of our life members.
8. Establishment and continuous operation of liaison offices across all six local government areas in the district.
9. Constitution and inauguration of ward representatives in all 66 wards within the senatorial district.
10. Sustained advocacy and engagements demanding accelerated development for Ondo South Senatorial District.
11. Several other strategic interventions that, for reasons of discretion, are not publicly detailed here.
12. Seeing through the restoration of electricity to majority of the communities affected and we are still committed in seeing it through to the rest few affected communities that are yet to be connected
13. Unwavering support for and solidarity with our representatives in both the Red Chamber (Senate) and Green Chamber (House of Representatives), with particular emphasis on the Red Chamber.
14. And many additional efforts too numerous to list exhaustively at this time.

While this summary may not capture every accomplishment, a comprehensive and detailed report will be published in the forthcoming 4th edition of the Ondo South magazine series. This edition will coincide with the highly anticipated 4th Ondo South Security, Economic and Leadership Summit, scheduled for early next year. The event promises to be exceptionally impactful, featuring powerful empowerment programmes and other life-changing initiatives. The Association will also use the occasion to commemorate its 10th anniversary.

Furthermore, the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent Secretariat building at the acquired site is expected to take place in the very near future.

We therefore humbly appeal to all members, leaders, and stakeholders to continue extending their full cooperation, unity, and support so that the flag of progress for OSAWA may remain aloft.

Thank you all once again for your steadfast trust, encouragement, and partnership.

ONDO SOUTH ADVANCEMENT AND CONSULTATIVE ASSOCIATION (OSAWA)

EXTENSION OF TENURE OF THE OSAWA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL FOR 31 MONTHS

Congress Report – February 14, 2026

1. First Session of Congress (Presidential Session)

The first session of the Congress was presided over by the President of OSAWA, Comrade Ade-Aworetan Olajuwon, alongside members of the Executive Council.

In his remarks, the President welcomed members and appreciated their steadfast commitment to the growth and unity of the Association. He reaffirmed the Executive Council’s dedication to constitutional governance and collective decision-making.

At the conclusion of the first session, the President and members of the Executive Council formally excused themselves from Congress to allow for the Independent Electoral Council (IEC) to take full charge of the second session in line with constitutional provisions.

2. Second Session of Congress (IEC Session)

The second session of the Congress was presided over by the Independent Electoral Council (IEC), led by Engr. Mesogborewon Damilare, Chairman of the IEC, in collaboration with the OSAWA Screening Committee chaired by Mr. Akintan Akinyemi.

3. Opening Remarks by the IEC Chairman

In his opening address, Engr. Mesogborewon Damilare appreciated members for their cooperation and consistent support throughout the electoral process. He emphasised transparency, accountability, and collective responsibility as guiding principles for sustaining the integrity of the Association.

4. Report on the Electoral Process and Developments

The IEC Chairman presented a comprehensive report of the electoral process. He stated that on 3rd December 2025, the IEC issued its first press statement outlining election guidelines. Elections were initially scheduled for 23rd and 24th January 2026, with 9th January 2026 fixed as the deadline for submission of nomination forms.

Due to the low turnout of aspirants, the deadline was extended to 15th January 2026, and the elections were rescheduled to 30th and 31st January 2026. In response to agitations over the cost of nomination forms, the Committee approved a 20% reduction in form prices to encourage wider participation.

Despite these efforts, no aspirant completed the nomination process for any position. Only Mr. Odunjo Ilemobayo obtained a Nomination of Interest Form for the office of Director of Media and Communications but did not proceed to obtain the Expression of Interest Form.

On 17th January 2026, the IEC issued a press statement notifying members that no aspirant had fully complied with the nomination requirements and that consultations with critical stakeholders would follow to determine the next step.

Subsequently, members insisted that such a decision should be determined at Congress. A clarifying press release was issued on 18th January 2026, affirming that the constitutional authority to convene Congress rests with the Executive President, who thereafter fixed the Congress for February 14, 2026.

5. Deliberation on the Way Forward

Following the presentation of the report, the Secretary of the Electoral Committee and Moderator of the Congress, Comrade Victor Adedeji, opened the floor for deliberations.

6. Motion for Extension of Tenure

Comrade Ayemobuwa Idowu moved a motion for the extension of the tenure of the outgoing Executive Committee for a period of thirty-one (31) months. In moving the motion, he commended the IEC for its diligence and transparency and stressed the necessity of continuity, stability, and uninterrupted administration of the Association’s affairs.

The motion was seconded by Hon. Ayo Duyilemi.

7. Contributions in Support of the Motion

The motion received broad support from members, including:
Comrade Ambassador Taiwo Omotehinse (Ilaje LGA), Asogbon (Okitipupa LGA)
Hon. Samson Idowu Olufemi (Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGA), Doris Oluwakemi (Ilaje LGA)

In their respective contributions, they cited the absence of eligible aspirants, the need to prevent a leadership vacuum, the importance of continuity in governance, and their confidence in the credibility and performance of the current Executive Council.

8. Adoption of Resolution

The floor was opened for objections; none was raised. The motion was subsequently put to a voice vote and was unanimously adopted by Congress.

Congress therefore resolved to extend the tenure of the present Executive Council for thirty-one (31) months.

9. Acceptance by the Executive Council

The Secretary of the IEC invited the Executive Council to reappear before Congress and formally communicated the resolution.

Responding on behalf of the Executive Council, the President, Comrade Ade-Aworetan Olajuwon, accepted the tenure extension and expressed profound appreciation to members for the confidence reposed in the leadership.

He assured Congress of continued dedication, responsible service, and unwavering commitment to the Association’s growth.

10. Closing Remarks

The Chairman of the Screening Committee, Mr. Akintan Akinyemi, commended members for their maturity, unity, and orderly conduct throughout the proceedings.

In his concluding remarks, the IEC Chairman formally ratified the resolution of Congress and officially declared the extension of the tenure of the Executive Council for another 31 months.

11. Vote of Thanks and Adjournment
Mrs. Oyesile Rachael delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the IEC and the Screening Committee.

A motion for adjournment was moved by Mr. Asogbon and seconded by Doris Oluwakemi. The Congress was thereafter formally adjourned following a closing prayer offered by Mrs. Orola Taiwo.
