FIFA punishes 2030 World Cup co-host Spain for anti-Muslim chants by fans during friendly against Egypt. 🇪🇸 ⚽️

During the March 31 match at Barcelona’s RCDE Stadium, sections of the Spanish crowd repeatedly chanted a slogan translating to “Whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim.”

The chant was heard during both halves of the 0-0 draw, prompting anti-discrimination warnings to be displayed inside the stadium.

FIFA ruled that the chant used Muslim identity as a form of exclusion and ridicule, rejecting the Spanish federation’s argument that the word “Muslim” itself was not insulting.

Spain was fined $20,000 and ordered to close at least 15% of the seating at its next home friendly, or fill those seats with approved groups including families, students and anti-discrimination organizations.

Muslim Spain star Lamine Yamal condemned the chants after the match, calling them “disrespectful and intolerable” and saying that using someone’s religion as a taunt is ignorant and racist.
