We aspire to quality education, meaningful opportunities, peace, inclusion, dignity, innovation, and the freedom to participate in shaping the societies we live in.

Our differences should not divide us; they should strengthen our collective commitment to building a more inclusive and prosperous world.
As we commemorate International Youth Day, let us celebrate the creativity, resilience, diversity, and leadership of young people, while creating opportunities for every young person to dream, participate, lead, and thrive. Every adolescent and young person deserves access to health services that are safe, welcoming, confidential, and free from judgment.

This is the vision driving the strengthening of Adolescent and Youth-Friendly Health Services (AYFHS) in Kwara State.

For five impactful days, Adolescent Focal Persons from all 16 Local Government Areas participated in an intensive capacity-building training supported by UNFPA and facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Health's Gender, Adolescent, School Health and Elderly Care (GASHE) Unit.

The training focused on equipping health workers with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver quality Adolescent and Youth-Friendly Health Services that are accessible, acceptable, equitable, appropriate, and effective. Beyond clinical care, participants explored how to create safe spaces where adolescents and young people can seek accurate health information, access essential services, express their concerns freely, and receive respectful, confidential, and non-discriminatory care.

One of the key highlights of the training was the call for dedicated adolescent and youth-friendly corners and centres within health facilities—spaces intentionally designed to make young people feel valued, respected, and empowered to take charge of their health and well-being.

When young people trust the health system, they are more likely to seek care early, make informed decisions, adopt healthy behaviours, and thrive.
Strengthening Adolescent and Youth-Friendly Health Services is more than improving healthcare delivery—it is an investment in healthier adolescents, stronger communities, and a brighter future for Kwara State and Nigeria.

Together, we are building a health system where no young person is left behind.
