GURARA YOUTH FOUNDATION (GYF)
Non-Governmental Organization

Press Release – May 16, 2025

The Gurara Youth Foundation (GYF) held a special sitting today, Friday, May 16, 2025, to deliberate on a land dispute involving two families contesting ownership of a parcel of land. Both parties were present during the session.

Despite meaningful deliberations, the foundation was unable to reach a resolution at today's sitting. Consequently, the matter has been adjourned to the following upper week for further hearing and possible settlement.

In a related development, the foundation welcomed a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who studied Adult Education and Community Development. She expressed her interest in joining the foundation to gain practical experience in community development and gender-based violence advocacy. She was also in attendance during the land dispute session.

The meeting was presided over by Barrister Shehu Aliyu, the Chief Executive Officer of GYF, alongside Amb. Adamu Haruna, a renowned human rights activist and stakeholder in the foundation.

The Gurara Youth Foundation remains committed to peacebuilding, community engagement, and the protection of human rights within the local government and beyond.

Tragedy in Gurara LGA as Man Commits Su***de After Losing His second Wife.

A 30-year-old man identified as Mr. Stephine has tragically taken his own life in Ikumi Shako Ward, Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State.

According to sources, Mr. Stephine had been emotionally distressed since the death of his second wife last month. Friends revealed that he often spoke of his inability to cope with the loss and repeatedly stated that he could not live without her.

Today 24 April 2025, Mr. Stephine took his hunting gun to the farm, where he sadly ended his life. He is survived by his first wife and two children, who are now left in deep mourning.

The incident has thrown the community into shock and sorrow.

In response, the Gurara Youth Foundation has expressed deep sadness over the tragic event. The Foundation is calling for urgent action to raise awareness about mental health challenges, especially among young people and the general public. They emphasized the need for counseling, emotional support systems, and community engagement to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"This is a wake-up call for all of us," a spokesperson said. "We must prioritize mental health, break the silence, and provide safe spaces for people to speak up and seek help."
