United by Unique

World Cancer Day originated in France over 25 years ago and remains one of the most significant days globally. This year, February 4th didn't go unnoticed, as various stakeholders marked the day with "United by Unique" themed events.

The day serves as a reflection point and a catalyst for activities aimed at raising cancer awareness, mobilizing resources, and providing services to those affected. It's also a time to assess the state of cancer treatment and management.

As part of the 2025 theme, "United by Unique," I represented INCRESE Feminist Institute in a consortium comprising the Raise Foundation, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, and the State Ministry of Health. Together, we discussed the unique interventions each organization specializes in, which collectively provide a wide range of services to our beneficiaries.

Our consortium implements advocacy projects targeting policymakers for resource allocation, policy development, and implementation. We also provide information, education, screening services, health navigation, and treatment support. Recognizing that every cancer case is unique, we strive to tailor our services to meet individual needs.

This year, we organized a one-hour call-in radio program at Badegi FM Station and engaged with in-school adolescents. These activities enabled us to reach millions, emphasizing the importance of early detection, seeking medical care, and leveraging social support networks.

Feminists don't Die!!

News reached me last night of the transition of my Mentor, Prof. BENE Madunagu.

She touched every aspect of my life and taught me the principles, values and techniques of mentorship.

And she did so by example.

Similar to what one of the Nigerian lefts said, the measure of sadness and sense of loss in my heart today equals the measure of gratitude and joy that I feel having been Mumsy B's mentee.

Knowing that she has transited to the Source in love, peace and light, I am more determined than ever before to uphold the principles that she built in me.

For all who benefitted from her passion, power and leadership, directly or indirectly, now, the baton is fully in our hands. It is our comfort and our pride.

Feminists don't Die. They are eternal. They continue impacting the earth in many ways than we can imagine or measure. ✨👑✨

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women:
Intimate partner violence is a daily occurrence, yet, due to the intimacy involved, many victims think that speaking out is a betrayal of trust.

To bring intimate partner violence to an end, we must create a supportive and safe environment for victims to speak out.

We must stop the shaming and blaming of the victim.

All perpetrators must be brought to book.

Development partners must work arduously to empower women and make women economically independent.

UNITE to End Violence against Women ✊🏽

INCRESE is featured in "Tackling the Taboo", a publication by Girls Not Brides, a global partnership of civil society organizations committed to ending child marriage.

The publication highlights the work of INCRESE, a Nigerian organization that uses a gender-transformative approach to address child, early, and forced marriage.

Here's a summary of the publication:

Title: Tackling the Taboo: Breaking the silence on child marriage in Nigeria
Author: Girls Not Brides
Publication Year: 2019

The publication explores INCRESE's innovative approach to addressing child marriage in Nigeria, which involves engaging with communities, religious leaders, and traditional rulers to challenge harmful gender norms and practices. It also highlights the importance of working with men and boys to promote gender equality and end child marriage.

INCRESE is intentional in her quest to develop human capital to boost the number of women, Girls and youths who contribute to revenue generation and development in Niger State

This is the overall goal of the work we do.

The Coalition for the Defence of Sexual Rights (CDSR), is increasingly concerned about the impunity with which sexual and gender-based violence is carried out, especially by those who should be preventing it.
The video shows a certain deacon reported to go by the name Kevin Iorfa carrying out this violent act on an unarmed young woman who also happens to be his sister. Only to claim he carried out the atrocious act under "spiritual influence"
CDSR enjoins Law enforcement to ensure that, it is made known that this excuse is untenable and an insult to our collective intelligence as a nation
And he should be made to face the full consequences of his actions, so as to serve as a deterrent to others like him.
