After the Pages Turned: An Evening with The Creativity of Man

Saturday at Hilltop was anything but quiet—BM Dzukogi’s The Creativity of Man went head-to-head with the Minna Book Club, and let’s just say… nobody left the ring unbruised.

Our VP, Hajiya Adishatu Usman, steered the review with brilliance (and a few friendly jabs). We praised the book’s strengths, but also poked holes where clarity decided to play hide and seek. Luckily, the author himself was in the room to rescue us—he cleared grey areas and made us wonder why we didn’t just call him earlier or why he didn't just attach footnotes that spoke to us directly.

And now the twist: the next review is still a mystery—no book, no date, no reviewer yet. All will be decided by our WhatsApp parliament, where debates fly faster than stickers and emojis.

One thing’s sure: in Minna Book Club, reading isn’t calm—it’s comedy, debate, and wisdom rolled into one.

The Book Everyone Pretends to Have Finished

Who says Saturdays are only for weddings and owambes? Today, 30th August 2025 at 3:30 PM, the Hilltop Creative Art Center will prove that a room full of readers can be louder than a DJ’s speaker—without even touching volume k***s.

BM Dzukogi’s The Creativity of Man is our honored guest. This isn’t just a book; it’s a mirror polished with wisdom, daring each of us to check if we truly have imagination or if we’ve been running on auto-pilot. Warning: those who arrive unread might find themselves smiling awkwardly, like someone who clapped at the wrong part of a play.

The spotlight falls on Vice President Hajiya Adishatu Usman, who will be reviewing the work. Expect sparks, questions, and maybe that familiar silence when someone is caught thinking, “Wait… I should have underlined that page.”

So bring your wit, your energy, and your copy of the book (preferably not still in the nylon wrapper). By the time we’re done, the only thing more exercised than your brain will be your laughter muscles.

⏰ Tomorrow! The Creativity of Man Takes the Stage

The wait is almost over—tomorrow, Saturday 30th August 2025 at 3:30 PM, we gather at the Hilltop Creative Art Center for what promises to be another literary rumble.

We’ll be dissecting BM Dzukogi’s The Creativity of Man—a book so rich, you might just wonder if the man was secretly consulting angels while writing.

Our Vice President, Hajiya Adishatu Usman, will be steering the review, and we can already smell the debates, laughter, and side-eyes that will surely follow.

So please, don’t arrive empty-headed—flip through those pages tonight. At least know the difference between the dedication and the first chapter.

Tomorrow, 3:30 PM sharp—come with your book, your wit, and your best argument. Leave the excuses at home.

30TH AUGUST – THE CREATIVITY OF MAN AWAITS!

Hello Book People,

Our next date with destiny (and with BM Dzukogi’s mind) is on Saturday, 30th August 2025 at 3:30PM, the Hilltop Creative Art Center. We’re not just reading The Creativity of Man—we’re preparing to wrestle with it, laugh with it, and possibly accuse Dzukogi of hiding extra wisdom between the lines.

This time, our very own special Vice President, Hajiya Adishatu Usman, will be leading the review, while your humble PRO will be moderating (yes, moderating, not dramatizing—though no promises if the debate gets too hot!).

So, dear members, dust off your copy (don’t just use it as a coaster), read a little, read a lot—but for heaven’s sake, don’t show up with page one still greeting you with “once upon a time.”

Come 30th, let’s sit, sip, and set the room on fire—with ideas, of course. Matches are banned.

📚 Next Stop: The Creativity of Man

Sharpen your wits, polish your bookmarks, and prepare your minds—our next literary voyage is set! We’ll be diving into The Creativity of Man by none other than a literary Icon, and the pioneer Architect of the Hilltop Creative Art Centre Pa BM Dzukogi, the literary father whose pen bleeds inspiration and whose ideas seem to have been carved from the granite hills of wisdom.

Think of it as not just reading a book, but walking into a room where imagination and experience are having tea… and they’ve invited you to join the conversation.

Copies are available—contact our Treasurer at +234 818 445 7303 before they vanish faster than the last chin-chin at tea break. Remember, holding the book is a promise to show up… and no, this isn’t just another Nigerian “promise and fail” situation.

Let’s get ready to read, laugh, argue, and leave the meeting a little wiser (and maybe a little prouder that we didn’t just stick to scrolling on our phones).

Pages ready? Minds ready? See you there.

Post-Review Briefing: A Night of Thought, Fire, and Foresight

The Minna Book Club held yet another impactful session on Saturday, 26th July 2025, at the Hilltop Creative Art Center, and it was nothing short of a literary feast. The spotlight was on Tsitsi Dangarembga’s Nervous Conditions—a novel that stirred emotions, ignited critical thought, and sparked layered conversations on identity, gender, and social mobility.

The session was marked by vibrant engagement and deep introspection. The review which was moderated by Prof. Awal in the absence of the PRO and led by Hafsat H. Kure, moved beyond a summary of the novel—it provoked thoughtful debates, especially on the psychological and cultural tensions that frame the protagonist’s experiences. Many voices in the room, both young and seasoned, including Baba and other long-time literary minds, weighed in, transforming the gathering into a rich dialogue across generations.

As a powerful conclusion to the evening, it was unanimously agreed that our next reading session will explore The Creativity of Man by BM Dzukogi—a timely and profound work from a literary father whose influence runs deep within the creative veins of Hilltop. You can contact the Treasurer via the following number for more details on how to grab a copy in preparation against the next meeting +234 818 445 7303

In addition, we’re pleased to share an upcoming opportunity:
A special reading session has been scheduled for 10th August 2025 at the Art Center, in honour of a newly published author visiting from Abuja ‘Obinna Udenwe'. He’ll be unveiling his latest book, and the Minna Book Club has been formally invited to be part of this celebration of new Nigerian literature.

We are also delighted to announce that Hilltop Creative Art Foundation (HCAF) has received the first batch of Years of Shame by Obinna Udenwe, ahead of his own reading session, also set for 10th August 2025. As Pa BM Dzukogi earlier announced, the first consignment was generously paid for by friends of the Foundation, with more copies expected in due time.

Please be reminded:
👉 Receiving a copy of the book means you’re committing to attend. Let us honor this culture of integrity and presence that defines our club.

Once again, thank you to every member who showed up, spoke up, and lit up the last session with their presence. We look forward to more enriching conversations, fresh literary discoveries, and growing our community of readers and thinkers.

Let’s keep the pages turning and the minds burning.

A QUICK REMINDER AS WE LOOK FORWARD TOWARDS DELVING INTO DANGAREMBGA

As the calendar draws closer to July 26th, 2025, we're reminded that a book is more than just pages turned – it's a doorway into memory, identity, struggle, and awakening. The Minna Book Club invites you to join a gathering of minds and hearts, ready to be stirred, challenged, and changed. We'll be delving into Tsitsi Dangarembga's revolutionary novel, "Nervous Conditions", a testimony, a defiance, and a call to consciousness. This isn't just fiction – it's a mirror reflecting the hunger for education, the whispers of patriarchy, and the screams of the spirit. Join us at the Hill-top Creative Art Center, David Mark Road, Minna, on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at 3:00pm sharp, as we embark on this journey of discovery and exploration. With the brilliant Hafsat H. Kure guiding us through the rich textures of the novel, and our P.R.O. moderating the discussion, this promises to be a moment of provocation, not just a passing moment. Mark your calendar, and prepare your mind. Let's turn July into a season of stories, a gathering of minds, where pages meet passion. Your presence matters – see you there!

A SEASON OF STORIES, A GATHERING OF MINDS

Dear Booklovers,
What is a book, if not a doorway? A doorway into memory, identity, struggle, and awakening. And what is a book club, if not a gathering of minds and hearts—ready to be stirred, challenged, and changed?

As the calendar leans toward 26th July 2025, we are not just approaching a date—we are approaching a reckoning with literature, with womanhood, with history, and with truth. This month, the Minna Book Club takes on Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga’s revolutionary novel that dares to speak the unspeakable and feel the unspoken.

Tambudzai is not just a character—she is a mirror. A mirror of what it means to hunger for education in a world that starves your dreams. A mirror of how patriarchy whispers “no” when your spirit screams “yes.” She invites us into a world so distant and yet so achingly familiar. This is not just fiction—it is a testimony. A defiance. A call to consciousness.

We are calling on you—yes, you who crave stories with soul, you who believe that books are more than entertainment—they are weapons of thought and instruments of change.

📚 Read with us.
💬 Reflect with us.

Join the conversation at Hill-top Creative Art Center, David Mark Road, Minna on Saturday, 26 July 2025 by 3:00pm sharp. The brilliant Hafsat H. Kure will guide us through the rich textures of the novel, while the P.R.O, will be honored to moderate your thoughts, questions, and reflections.

See you where the pages meet passion.

Minna Book Club's June Meetup: A Resounding Success! 🎉📚

Yesterday, members of the Minna Book Club gathered at the Hill-top Creative Arts Centre, David Mark Road, Minna, for an unforgettable afternoon of literary magic, deep reflections, and great conversations. Despite being a small but enthusiastic group, the members made the most of their time together, discussing a range of thought-provoking books, including "The Marriage of Anansewa" by Effua Theodora Sutherland, "Antony and Cleopatra", and "Nervous Condition" by Tsitsi Dangarembga, amongst others.

A highlight of the meeting was the participation of our youngest member, 8-year-old Khadijah Unekwu Kashim, who shared her thoughts on "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi. Her insights and enthusiasm were truly inspiring, and we're proud to have her as part of our book-loving family! 👧📚

The members enjoyed some delicious snacks and homemade drinks while appreciating the efforts of our President, Hon. Bello Ibrahim, who has been instrumental in supporting the club. We're grateful for his dedication and commitment to promoting a culture of reading in our community.

During the meeting, the members discussed on organising a programme that will bring book lovers from our club to selected schools to encourage the habit of reading amongst young people. This initiative aims to promote literacy and a love for books amongst the next generation. It can also induce in others (both teachers and executives) the interested to be members from the schools visited. 📚👫

Looking ahead, the club has already picked a book “Nervous Condition by Tsitsi Dangarembga" for next month's review, scheduled for July 26th. Our Treasurer will be reviewing the book, and our P.R.O. will moderate the discussion. We're excited to see what insights and perspectives our members will bring to the table! 🤔📖

We want to encourage all book lovers to join us and make our meetings more colourful with their presence. Your participation matters, and we're confident that together, we can create a vibrant community of readers who share a passion for literature. 📚💕

Let's keep the momentum going! 💪📚 We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
