Yelwata Rises: Clean Water Defies Terror 💧

On January 29, 2026, Yelwata community in Guma LGA, Benue State—still reeling from brutal terrorist herder attacks—received a lifeline. The Centre for Development & Social Justice handed over a hand-pumped borehole, funded by Rev Fr Simeon Community Service Funds, Michigan, USA, delivering clean water to a people long denied basic dignity.

The simple yet powerful ceremony saw community members, survivors, and Centre representatives unite. When the pump first flowed, joy erupted— a quiet but defiant victory over violence, restoring health, time, and hope to families rebuilding from trauma.

This borehole is more than infrastructure; it’s proof that compassion from afar can heal local wounds. Grateful to Rev Fr Simione Funds, the Centre reaffirms its mission: in the shadow of terror, justice and solidarity endure.

Earlier today, Staff of CEDASJ attended the Thanksgiving Mass to mark the the 36th Priestly Ordination Anniversary, 60th birthday celebration, and book launch to honour the remarkable achievements of Rev. Fr. Dr. Simeon Iber, Rector of St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Makurdi.

Earlier today, the Centre held her yearly Review and Learning intensive meeting with Staff.

The Objective of the meeting;

* It is an opportunity for learning, improvement and growth of individuals and the organization at large.

* It is a mechanism for feedback from previous projects.

*It enables Staff understand their strengths and weaknesses to make the necessary improvement.

* It also improves Staff performance and productivity.

In the course of this meeting, an award was also given to one of the Staff as "The Most Hardworking and Dedicated Staff" of the year, 2023. This act is also a good way of strengthening and encouraging staff to do more for individual and organisational growth.

The Centre did a sensitization program on GBV issues, the Rights of Women and Girls who are the most vulnerable in the society, taught them also on ways to being self-reliant at the Ichwa IDP Camp, Makurdi.
