Hope and Care Foundation participated in the Civil Society Organizations in Benue two-day capacity-building training held from 14th–15th April 2026 in Makurdi. The training brought together diverse civil society actors and focused on strengthening key areas such as governance, project management, financial systems, procurement, and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E).

Through interactive sessions, our team gained valuable knowledge in proposal writing, resource mobilization, financial accountability, and the use of digital tools for tracking impact. The participatory nature of the training also provided an opportunity to share experiences and learn from other organizations.

This experience has further positioned Hope and Care Foundation to improve its internal systems, enhance programme delivery, and strengthen its overall impact. We are committed to applying these lessons and stepping down the knowledge within our organization to better serve our communities.

This week marked a significant milestone in our collective advocacy journey as Hope and Care Foundation, in collaboration with members of Civil Society-Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, intensified efforts to end malnutrition and strengthen maternal and child health systems in Benue State and across Nigeria.
Through high-level advocacy visits to key government stakeholders—including the Director-General of BICD, Head of Service, Secretary to the State Government, Director-General of Budget, and the Economic Planning Commission—we advanced critical policy and financing discussions aimed at improving nutrition outcomes for women and children.
Our Key Advocacy Asks
✓Institutionalization of six months paid maternity leave.
✓ Increased and sustained financing for nutrition programmes.
✓ Enrollment in the UNICEF Matching Funding Mechanism for the procurement of lifesaving nutrition commodities.
✓ Establishment of functional nutrition departments within relevant MDAs.
✓ Operationalization and budgetary support for Local Government Committees on Food and Nutrition.
Key Outcomes Achieved
We are encouraged by the positive commitments received from all stakeholders engaged:
✓Strong assurances were given to support the adoption of six months paid maternity leave at the State Executive Council (Exco) level.
✓The Director-General of Budget and Economic Planning Commission confirmed that a memo on maternity leave has already been submitted to the Exco.
✓Local Government Committees on Food and Nutrition have been operationalized and are currently undergoing capacity strengthening on programme-based budgeting.
✓The Government commitment was reaffirmed to provide counterpart funding for the procurement of lifesaving nutrition commodities.
These outcomes reinforces the importance of sustained civil society engagement in shaping responsive and inclusive public policies.
Hope and Care Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to promote equitable access to nutrition services, strengthen accountability systems, and ensure that no woman or child is left behind.

It was a momentous day in Makurdi yesterday, as .benue (Civil Society Organizations in Benue (CSO-B), represented by Hope and Care Foundation, participated in a crucial interactive session with a high-level delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The delegation, led by Ms. Ugochi Daniels, Deputy Director General for Operations, and Ms. Sylvia Ekra, Regional Director for West and Central Africa, engaged with the Governor of Benue State Rev Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, government officials, and development partners to discuss collaborative efforts to address the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment to restore dignity, rebuild lives and secure durable solutions for people displaced by conflict, terrorism, and climate challenges in Benue State. Notably, the Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting IDPs, announcing a $50,000 contribution to IOM's Resilience Campaign to facilitate the return of IDPs to their ancestral homes and restore livelihoods.

Furthermore, IOM announced a $1.1 million humanitarian funding package from the European Union and ECHO, which will be jointly implemented by IOM, UN-Habitat and UNHCR to benefit the people of Benue State. In recognition of IOM's lifesaving interventions and partnership with Benue State, the Governor presented a Distinguished Humanitarian Award to the organization.

As we move forward, we look forward to continued collaboration and partnership with IOM and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives and to bring hope and relief to those affected by conflict and displacement in Benue State.
