TO ALL OFFICERS AND BOYS OF THE BOYS’ BRIGADE NIGERIA, BENUE STATE COUNCIL
ON THE OCCASION OF THE 143RD ANNIVERSARY OF THE BOYS’ BRIGADE

Dear Officersand Boys,
Today, 4th October 2026, we join millions of members of The Boys’ Brigade around the world to celebrate 143 years of faith, discipline, service, leadership and character building

On 4th October 1883, The Boys’ Brigade was founded by Sir William Alexander Smith in Glasgow, Scotland, with the vision of combining biblical principles with discipline and purposeful training for young people. One hundred and forty-three years later, that vision continues to inspire generations across nations, communities and churches

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, let us remember that we are not merely members of an organisation; we are custodians of a legacy. The uniform we wear carries a history of sacrifice. The badge we proudly display represents a commitment to Christ, discipline and service. Every parade, Bible study, band practice, camp, outreach and act of service is an opportunity to continue the work that began 143 years ago

To our Officers, thank you for your sacrifices, leadership, patience and commitment to raising boys who will become responsible men and servant leaders. May God continue to give you wisdom, strength and grace

To our Boys, remember that you are not too young to make a difference. Be strong in character, firm in faith, disciplined in conduct and ready to serve. The future of our churches, families, communities and nation is being shaped by the values you learn today

As Benue State Council, let us recommit ourselves to our motto:
“Sure and Stedfast.”
May we remain steadfast in Christ, faithful to our calling, united as a Council and committed to the ideals of The Boys’ Brigade

As we celebrate 143 years of The Boys’ Brigade, may we also look forward with hope to many more years of transforming lives, winning boys for Christ, developing leaders and serving humanity

In the spirit of the Founders' day celebration,earlier today the State President of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria Benue State Council,Elder Moses Erdoo Orshio (ANTO) accompanied the Gboko North Battalion Council Chairman Elder Joseph Terhemba Agbo and his entire council (officers and Boys) to the Gboko Correctional Centre where they were able to release Mr. Sesugh Terhemba (an inmate)

At the event,Rev. Dr. SG Enger who read from John3:16,assured the inmates that God loves them

The State President Elder Moses Orshio appreciated the leadership of the Facility (Barrister Ikya Moses,the officer incharge) and prayed for the officers and inmates. The President encouraged the inmates never to be discouraged in serving God

After the appreciation from the officer incharge,he went on to bring Mr. Sesugh Terhemba (inmate) and handed him over to the State President who received him and handed him over to the Gboko North Battalion Council

One of the inmates gave the vote of thanks and handed the State President a handfan souvenir

Reverend Dr. Enger gave the closing prayer and Benediction

Today Mr. Sesugh arrives Lessel his home town with the promise to serve God with all his strength,might and heart

A Day of Honour and Service
(BB Nigeria Investiture Ceremony of National Patrons and the State Secretary Organiser of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria,Benue State Council at NKST Iortyer)

It was a remarkable day of honour, gratitude and renewed commitment to service yesterday at NKST Iortyer, as The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria gathered in a grand ceremony to celebrate distinguished servants of the organisation and formally entrust them with new responsibilities

The ceremony marked the investiture of three eminent personalities as National Patrons of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria: Mr. Kuma Aiiyenge (former State President of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Benue State Council),Dr. Philip Hembe Yaankyaa (former Chairman of the State Council of Patrons) and Professor D.V. Uza

The occasion brought together the National President of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria,ENGR. PROF. SamsonDunna, members of the National Council of Patrons, National Office Bearers, officers, Chaplains,Boys and well-wishers, making it a significant gathering of the Brigade’s leadership and family

The investiture of the three new National Patrons was a moment of deep significance. Their years of service, leadership and contribution to the growth and advancement of The Boys’ Brigade were recognised as they were formally admitted into the distinguished company of National Patrons

In a solemn and colourful ceremony, the new Patrons were presented with the flags of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria and the National Flag, symbolising their new responsibility to uphold, support and advance the ideals and mission of the organisation

They were subsequently decorated with the Patrons’ Badge, a visible emblem of the trust, honour and responsibility bestowed upon them

The atmosphere was one of pride and celebration as the three distinguished personalities took their place among the National Patrons, bringing together a remarkable bridge between their previous service to the Brigade and their new national responsibilities

The ceremony also witnessed another important transition in the leadership of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Benue State Council, with the investiture of Elder Samuel Akange as the State Secretary Organiser

His investiture added another significant dimension to the occasion, as the State Council formally entrusted him with a key responsibility in the administration and coordination of the Brigade’s affairs in Benue State for a second term

As he received the symbols of his office, the moment represented not merely a change of title, but a renewed call to leadership, diligence, coordination and service to God, the Church, the Brigade and the young people whose development remains central to the organisation’s mission

The presence of the National President of The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, National Patrons and National Office Bearers, alongside other distinguished guests and members of the Brigade, added grandeur to the occasion

From the solemnity of the investiture to the fellowship and celebration that followed, the ceremony reflected the enduring spirit of The Boys’ Brigade, a movement built on faith, discipline, service, leadership and the commitment to raising young people for responsible Christian living and service to humanity

Yesterday at NKST Iortyer was therefore more than a ceremony. It was a celebration of service rendered, trust entrusted and responsibilities renewed

As Mr. Kuma Aiiyenge, Dr. Philip Hembe Yaankyaa and Professor D.V. Uza begin their service as National Patrons, and as Elder Samuel Akange assumes his responsibilities as State Secretary Organiser, the Brigade family looks forward to a new chapter of collaboration, leadership and greater service

It was, indeed, a beautiful gathering,one in which honour met service, experience met responsibility, and the past met the promise of a greater future for The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria

Congratulations to the newly invested National Patrons and to Elder Samuel Akange. May God grant them wisdom, strength and grace for the responsibilities entrusted to them

HEN LEADERSHIP DANCED WITH TRADITION
Under the warm embrace of the Benue night, the dinner organised in honour of the National Council became more than a feast, it became a beautiful tapestry of fellowship, culture, gratitude and celebration

In an atmosphere thick with laughter, music and the unmistakable fragrance of Tiv hospitality, the National President, Engineer Professor Samson Duna, the Chairman of the National Council of Patrons, Chief Senator Dr. Barnabas Gemade, the National Secretary, Dr. Malgwi, his Assistant, Dele Taiwo, and many other distinguished National Council office bearers were received and celebrated in a manner that could only be described as Benue opening her heart to her guests

Then came the moment when culture took centre stage

One after another, these distinguished leaders were adorned in the rich and beautiful Tiv traditional attire. It was as though the threads of the "Anger" were stitching together two worlds national leadership and the ancient identity of the people of Benue. The attire was not merely clothing,it was a language without words, a cultural handshake, a declaration that when you come to Benue, you do not merely visit us,you become part of our story

And as the colours of Tiv heritage wrapped around the shoulders of the National Council, the atmosphere rose like a river after the rains

The National President, in appreciation, expressed gratitude for the warmth and hospitality of the people of Benue, describing the summit as the best so far. His words were not merely compliments,they were a testament to the spirit with which Benue had received the National Council

He also acknowledged Benue's remarkable strength in training, particularly its place as the state with the highest number of trainers, and commended the effectiveness and vibrancy of Boys' Brigade activities across the state

But amidst the applause came a gentle trumpet of responsibility

The National President raised concern over the observance of Boys' Brigade Week, noting that Benue was not doing as well as expected in that regard. His message was clear: there is still work to be done, and the state must awaken, rekindle the fire and give the week the prominence it deserves

Then, the speeches gave way to the language that requires no interpreter;food, music and dance

Plates were filled. Glasses were raised. Laughter travelled from table to table. And before long, the dignified walls between offices, titles and ranks seemed to disappear beneath the rhythm of celebration

The Patrons danced with one another in joyous abandon, their steps becoming a beautiful picture of fellowship. For a moment, titles rested, protocols softened, and everyone became simply a brother or sister caught in the rhythm of a shared celebration

It was more than a dinner!
It was Benue hospitality served on a platter of culture!
It was leadership clothed in heritage!
It was friendship seasoned with laughter!
It was tradition meeting fellowship beneath the same roof!

And as the night unfolded, one could only watch and marvel at the beauty of belonging

It was a powerful evening,one of those rare moments that do not merely happen, but become memories. An evening worth witnessing, worth celebrating, and truly worth being part of...
