π TRACKING OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF TWO BLOCK OF CLASSROOM AT COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL IGWURUTA
On 28 April 2026, LightHope Succor Worldwide Initiative team, with support from the BUDESHI Accountability Fund and the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), conducted a follow-up visit to verify the construction of a block of two classrooms (Project Code: ERGP20244773) at Omonubo, Igwuruta in Ikwerre LGA, Rivers State.
β
We confirmed that the project is fully completed (since August 2024) and currently in use by the Junior Secondary School.
The classrooms are of good standard and have significantly improved the learning environment.
π©βπ« Teachers and students expressed satisfaction, noting that the project has reduced overcrowding and improved learning conditions, especially with increasing student enrolment.
β οΈ However, a critical issue remains:
The school lacks a functional toilet system due to inadequate power supply and the reported theft of the generator used for pumping water. As a result, students are forced to use nearby bushes, raising serious health and safety concerns.
π¨ Whatβs Next?
LightHope is engaging stakeholders to address this urgent sanitation gap while also activating advocacy through to mobilize support for safe and dignified sanitation facilities for the students.
Together, we can ensure not just access to classrooms, but a truly conducive learning environment.
