PAOSMI and ECOWAS Strengthen Ties to Boost Regional Startup Ecosystem.
ABUJA, March 12, 2026 – Leaders from the Pan African Alliance of Small and Medium Industries (PAOSMI) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Private Sector Directorate met at PAOSMI Secretariat in Nigeria to finalize plans for a landmark regional startup summit aimed at industrializing the West African economy.
The working visit, held on March 11, 2026, was moderated by Dr. Henry E Emejuo, Director-General/CEO of PAOSMI with Mr Peter Oluonye the Ag Director, ECOWAS private sector directorate and featured high-level discussions on fostering innovation and supporting small & Medium scale industries in the region and across the continent.
During the session, PAOSMI presented a strategic roadmap for the upcoming 2nd ECOWAS Startup Summit. This very important ECOWAS initiative is designed to move beyond traditional "talk-shows" by implementing practical sessions that provide tangible value to entrepreneurs. The Director of the ECOWAS Private Sector Directorate expressed commitment to aligning the summit with broader regional industrialization goals.
"The summit is not just about an award; it is about how to help startups by bringing in experts in packaging and export to upscale businesses," stated Engr. Emmanuel Kwaya of PAOSMI. He emphasized that even participants who do not win the top prize will gain critical expertise and knowledge to build their businesses.
It was concluded that the summit must focus on "practical involvement" and "planning differently" to maintain excitement and deliver results without the boredom often associated with large-scale corporate events, the event scheduled for October 2026.
The collaboration marks a significant step toward achieving PAOSMI’s vision of a globally competitive African industrial ecosystem driven by innovative small and medium-scale industries.
