For Fanna from Kaga LGA, Borno State, learning to make liquid soap is more than acquiring a new skill. It is an opportunity to earn an income and contribute to her household.

Fanna is one of the women who gained practical skills through CATAI’s Income Generating Activities (IGA) training and received a start-up kit to help turn her new skill into a source of income.

Her story reflects a wider effort to help vulnerable women access the skills and resources they need to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthen their households.

Thanks to funding support from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) - OCHA Funds, Center For Advocacy,Transparency & Accountability Initiative - CATAI is supporting women to move from skills development to income-generating opportunities.

From One Mother’s Commitment to a Community of Change

For Amina Bunu, helping children grow healthier is more than a responsibility, is something she has chosen to champion in her community.

Through her journey as a Lead Mother, Amina gained practical knowledge on infant and young child feeding and now shares this knowledge with other mothers and caregivers, helping families make healthier feeding choices for their children.

Her journey is one of many.

Through the Integrated Life-Saving Nutrition and Protection Assistance for Conflict-Affected Populations project, with funding from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) - OCHA Funds, Center For Advocacy,Transparency & Accountability Initiative - CATAI has graduated 50 Lead Mothers in Kaga LGA, 35 Lead Mothers and 10 Lead Fathers in Konduga LGA, equipping community volunteers with practical knowledge to support better child nutrition.

These community volunteers are taking knowledge beyond health facilities and into homes, supporting mothers and caregivers with practical guidance on healthier feeding practices for young children.

When communities have the knowledge to act, healthier futures become possible.

No parent should choose between putting food on the table and getting life-saving healthcare for their child.

For Hajiya Zara in Damasak, State, north-east Nigeria, that was the reality.

Unable to afford transport, she walked 5 kilometres in extreme heat, carrying her 13-month-old son, who was suffering from life-threatening severe acute malnutrition, to the only stabilization centre in the area.

Her story reflects the difficult choices many families face as food insecurity, malnutrition and conflict intersect to drive humanitarian needs across north-east .

Urgent funding is needed to expand nutrition services, so that vulnerable families can receive life-saving assistance wherever they are.

Skills become opportunities when the right support is provided. ✂️🧵

Center For Advocacy,Transparency & Accountability Initiative - CATAI distributed tailoring start-up kits to selected caregivers in Sabon Layi Community, Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, under the NHF Standard Allocation 3 (SA3) Project.

The support will help trained beneficiaries put their tailoring skills to work, generate income, improve household livelihoods and strengthen their economic resilience.
