Borno NEWMAP organized two days training workshop for stakeholders on implementation of Resettlement Action plan(RAP) for Gwoza storm water flood and erosion control. Declaring the worship opened which took place at the newmap conference hall, the project coordinator of Nigeria Erosion and watershed management project in the state, Ayuba peter said in accordance with the provision of the Environmental impact Assessment (EIA) Act of 2004, it is mandatory for proponent of all new major development activities to carry out Environmental impact Assessment of their proposed project. He therefore noted that contract has been awarded for the construction of Gwoza storm water flood and erosion control work, adding that consultant have carried out Environmental and social management plan (ESMP) and Resettlement Action plan (RAP) the proposed activities. He applauded the effects of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum for given top most priority to address the devastation caused by flood and erosion in the state, stressing that the Governor in his magnanimity has approved the sum of fifty million naira ( #500,000,000.00) for the compensation of all the people that are going to be affected by the exercise......

CAPACITY BUILDING OF 100 FARMERS ON SUSTAINABLE LANDUSE MANAGEMENT
Land degradation, desertification and climate change are the major factors affecting proper and effective land use in the country.
The Commissioner Ministry of Environment. Alhaji Madu Lawan Walama disclose this at the opening ceremony of the five days training workshop organize by Nigeria Erosion and watershed Management project (NEWMAP) for farmers on sustainable land use management in Borno state.
While declaring the workshop open which took place at the Shehu Garbai Hall Ramat Polytechnic, the Commissioner Ministry of Environment said Land use is now a serious problem in the country as Land use by humans has a long history for more ten thousand years ago. He said the workshop is targeted to develop farmers with technics on how to use and sustained the importance of farm land across the state.
The participant at the workshop he said are farmers carefully selected including the traditional leaders from the grassroot area to diversify the Land use mechanism in view of the climate change around the globe.
speaking also, the permanent secretary Ministry of Environment Alhaji Yahaya Dankoli enjoined farmers in the state to be extra careful as the environment is always changing and devastating in view of the global climate change. He how ever said the farmers will now be adequately intimated on how to managed crops by using fertilizer, improved seeds, insecticide among others.
In his address, the project coordinator of NEWMAP in the state Ayuba Peter Shua said the project is aimed at enhancing farm produce and protecting environment from land degradation with support of international agencies in partnership with some state government.
Ayuba Peter also pointed out that the critical development of NEWMAP is to rehabilitate degraded land and reduce long-term erosion vulnerability in targeted sub watershed. He therefore charged the participant to tap the knowledge and extend to farmers in their communities.
Speaking on behalf of traditional leaders at the occasion Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Bello who is also the district head of Gwoza LGA explain some challenges farmers faced to include in securities among other issues and also appealed for more support for all the authority’s concern.
Meanwhile the 100 trainees were supported with farming tools to boost agricultural activities in the state. The Comm. Min. of Env. Charged the beneficiaries to use the item provided for them for the purpose intended.
Some of the beneficiaries thank the state government and NEWMAP for the gesture and assure the judicious use of the items provided in their localities.
The farming tools include sprayer, beans, maize, fertilizer, mango and orange seedling among others.

Borno NEWMAP flags off free distribution of fifteen thousand seedlings and private orchard to people of Uvu, Askira Uba local government area of Borno State. 18 people were benefited from the private orchard and were supported with water pump, tube well and fencing materials among others.

At the 3 days GIS Tailor- made training for Borno SPMU Staff at the NEWMAP conference hall. The resources person GIS consultant Dr. Garba Hassan Sambo. The NEWMAP project coordinator, Mr Peter Ayuba enjoined the participants to take good advantage of the training which is timily.
