NHF Spotlight: Lifesaving Response in Borno & Yobe

With support from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund managed by United Nations OCHA Nigeria, Mercy Corps is delivering an integrated Nutrition and WASH response to 153,200 people across nine LGAs in Borno and Yobe.

Targeting children under five and vulnerable women, the program combines treatment of acute malnutrition with improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene—addressing both immediate needs and root causes.

Following successful setup and early implementation, the response is now scaling to reach the most vulnerable communities.

🌍 This Earth Day, we choose hope. We choose action. We choose Nigeria.

At Mercy Corps Nigeria, we believe every seed of change we plant today has the power to grow into a forest of impact for tomorrow. From restoring degraded farmlands, to training youth in climate-smart agriculture, to helping communities rebuild after floods, our mission is rooted in protecting both people and planet.

Because climate resilience isn’t just about saving the earth, it’s about preserving lives, livelihoods, and futures. It's about ensuring our daughters and sons inherit a world where they can thrive. This Earth Day, we stand with the communities we serve, who show us daily what it means to be resilient, innovative, and brave in the face of a changing climate.

Together, we’re not just responding to crisis, we’re building a greener, stronger, and more sustainable Nigeria.

Through the ECHO-funded Serving Underserved Needs (SUN) program, Mercy Corps, in partnership with MonClub International, is empowering 600 crisis-affected households with the tools, knowledge, and skills to grow nutritious vegetables year-round.

With backyard gardening tools in hand and expert training from Mercy Corps village agents, farmers are learning to cultivate resilience—one seed, one harvest, one meal at a time. These gardens are more than just food sources; they are pathways to self-reliance, nutrition, and food security for families facing crisis.

Imagine a future where every household in Marte can grow its own fresh, green vegetables—providing children with vital nutrients, strengthening community resilience, and breaking the cycle of hunger for good!

Swipe to see the impact in action! 👉📸

Together, we are planting the seeds of change. Join us in celebrating these incredible farmers by sharing this post! đź’š

Exciting news!
Mercy Corps, in partnership with Amplio, has launched an innovative talking device in Borno State, Nigeria, through the USAID/Nigeria BHA-funded Broadening Emergency and Graduation Efforts (BEGE) and Strengthening Humanitarian Response and Building Community Resilience in Northeast Nigeria (NE-CORE) programs.

This device is designed to support people with low literacy in Bama, Ngala, Damboa, Dikwa, Gwoza, Konduga, and Monguno LGAs, delivering essential content on maternal and child nutrition to improve health practices in the region.

Designed for women with low literacy, this device delivers essential maternal and child nutrition content in local dialects (Kanuri and Hausa). Care group volunteers use it to educate over 1,000 women weekly on topics like breastfeeding, hygiene, and food diversity.

It is a powerful tool for change in improving health and nutrition.
