Over two weeks after the abduction of school children in Borno and Oyo States, many families are still waiting for answers, and children who should be in classrooms remain in captivity.

At Debbie Kauna Foundation, we strongly condemn every attack on schools, students, and educators. No child should have to choose between education and safety.

Beyond providing interventions and support within communities, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) also have a responsibility to advocate for accountability and remind leaders that access to safe, quality education is a right and not a privilege.

We respectfully call on the Federal Government, the governments of the affected states, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts toward the safe rescue and reunification of every abducted child.

Our thoughts remain with the children, their families, and the communities carrying this pain.

Every child deserves to learn without fear.

At Rise To Inspire Africa Initiative - RIA Initiative we believe that safeguarding a child's future requires a holistic approach one that combines the restoration of fundamental rights with the promotion of health and well being.

Recently, our team led a critical sensitisation and awareness campaign focused on Personal Hygiene and Child’s Rights in our target communities promoting

📌 WaSH Literacy: Teaching sustainable personal hygiene practices to combat waterborne illnesses and improve public health outcomes.
📌 Child Protection: Creating awareness around the fundamental rights of every child to education, safety, and a life free from violence.

By educating both children and community stakeholders, driving impact from the grassroots up by that we are building a generation that will grow up carrying these essential values forward.
We owe it to the most vulnerable to ensure their rights are respected, their health is secured, and most importantly that they know what their rights are.

Is Pro-Family just a label, or a commitment to humanity?

Today is the International Day of Families. While the world marks the occasion with celebrations, at Rise to Inspire Africa (RIA) Initiative, we are digging deeper into the 2026 theme: Families, Inequalities, and Child Wellbeing.

In our work across Sub-Saharan Africa, we see the reality: Many pro-family policies actually leave the most vulnerable behind. They often ignore the diverse shapes families take and weaken the very systems like healthcare and education that children need to survive.

True support isn't one-size-fits-all. It must be .

Families in our communities are resilient and diverse:

📌 Extended & Intergenerational: 38% of families globally rely on this vital support network.
📌 Single-Mother Led: 89% of single-parent homes are headed by women who carry the weight of the future.
📌 Displaced & Conflict-Affected: Families fighting for dignity in the face of hardship.

This week, we join fosfeminista for the Week of Action to shift the conversation toward what families actually need to thrive:

📌 SAFETY: Real protection from violence and displacement.
📌 WELL-BEING: Access to nutritious food and quality healthcare.
📌 SUPPORT: Policies that champion gender equality and women’s rights.
📌 CARE: Stronger systems for childcare and elder care.
📌 RECOGNITION: Respect for all family structures without judgment.
📌 CHOICE: The power for every individual to plan their own future.

We aren’t just celebrating families today; we are advocating for the policies that allow them to flourish.
Because a society is only as strong as its most marginalized family.

Happy international day of families ❤️

“I used to think the biggest challenge on the road was traffic. I never realized some passengers are fighting silent battles before the journey even begins.” — A transport driver laments.

For a woman at Jambutu or Nasarawo Park in yola, travel isn't just about the destination but a grueling negotiation with public spaces that weren't built for her body.

Recently, we brought the Project to the heart of Yola North’s transport hubs, where we weren't just distributing products but reclaiming the right to move with dignity.

By transforming motor parks from places of "hushed whispers" into zones of open support, we are ensuring that the 10-hour stretch to Abuja is defined by a woman's ambitions, not her biological discomfort.

True dignity is a team sport, fueled by the visionary fuel of AFD - Agence Française de Développement through fosfeminista, whose support allows the combined our expertise and that of the consortium partners ( Big Family 360 Foundation, Hope And Rural Aid Foundation - HARAF., Debbie Kauna Foundation, Today For Tomorrow Initiative -TFT, EVERY GIRL Initiative - EGi) to hit the ground running alongside the NURTW.

Join us in this movement, whether by advocating for clean park facilities and make period-friendly public spaces the new standard.

"I have never participated in a session as impactful as this one, which clearly addressed the key needs and gaps within our community." – Alhaji Saleh Dalla, Konduga LGA

When communities speak, real change becomes possible.

In Konduga LGA, we recently held a community awareness workshop that opened something powerful: a space where residents, including persons living with disabilities, gathered not as recipients of information but as active contributors to their own protection.

Together, participants identified hotspots linked to illicit activities in their communities, shared their lived experiences, and developed strategies rooted in local knowledge. The energy in that room was not manufactured. It was real, and it was theirs.

This workshop marks the beginning of an eight-month journey, one focused on strengthening awareness, reducing vulnerability to illicit economies, and putting protection in the hands of the people who need it most.

This is community ownership. And it is just getting started.
