In pursuit of the truth behind the Jilli market airstrike, investigative filmmaker Atsahyel Aaron undertook a challenging journey into one of Nigeria’s most dangerous and remote regions, a vast stretch of the Sahara Desert between Borno and Yobe States, where Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents have operated for years.
Despite the security risks and difficult terrain, Aaron traveled deep into the conflict zone to document the experiences of survivors and uncover perspectives often missing from official accounts. The airstrike, which reportedly claimed the lives of more than 200 people, has remained a subject of controversy. While the Nigerian Air Force stated that the operation targeted terrorist elements, survivors interviewed during the investigation recounted a different reality, describing the loss of civilian lives, including women and children. Through this courageous reporting, Aaron sought to amplify the voices of those directly affected by the tragedy and provide audiences with a deeper understanding of the events that unfolded in Jilli.
