𝗔 𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘. 𝗔 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧.

Today, we marked the close of a journey that began nearly four years ago with one shared purpose: 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀.

At the 𝗕𝗠𝗭-𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁, JDPI Maiduguri, Caritas international, government representatives, partners and community members came together to reflect on the progress made, the lives impacted and, importantly, what comes next.

From stronger livelihoods and improved nutrition to safe water, psychosocial support, economic resilience and peacebuilding, the event reflected not only what the project achieved, but 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻.

We were particularly honoured by the presence of 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝘂 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, who delivered the 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀, bringing a national perspective to conversations around resilience, humanitarian action and sustaining development gains.

The event also featured high-level reflections from 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝗯𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗮, 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀; 𝗠𝗿. 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, highlighting the importance of inclusion, social protection and partnerships in sustaining resilience.

At the heart of the event were the 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀—beneficiaries sharing their experiences and journeys of change.

Their stories also took centre stage through the screening of the project documentary, bringing to life the people, experiences and transformations that have shaped the journey.

We also unveiled 𝗔 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁, a collection of success stories capturing the 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀—their experiences, progress and hopes beyond the project.

As this chapter closes, the stories, partnerships, knowledge and community-owned structures remain.

Because lasting change begins when communities are empowered to own the solutions.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽

JDPI Maiduguri recently brought together communities, nutrition partners, government representatives and development actors in Adamawa to celebrate a journey of progress and ask an important question: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲?

The Sustaining Nutrition Gains conference brought together voices from across the nutrition space to reflect on what has been achieved on the BMZ funded project with Caritas international, share lessons from communities, and look ahead to continued action.

From 𝗠𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗠𝗨𝗔𝗖 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀, the day highlighted something important: lasting change is strongest when communities are not just beneficiaries, but active owners of the solutions.

Our Lead Mothers also took centre stage, showcasing their work through an exhibition of branded Tom Brown and other healthy snacks, while certificates were presented in recognition of their commitment and contribution to community nutrition.

As the project journey continues beyond this chapter, the message remains clear:

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 CRS Nigeria

JDPI Maiduguri was honoured to join Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Nigeria and other partners and stakeholders in Abuja on 4 August for the 𝗖𝗥𝗦 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲.

Held at the NAF Conference Centre under the theme “𝗖𝗥𝗦 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸: 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮,” the event provided an opportunity to reflect on CRS Nigeria’s 26 years of service and impact, while looking ahead to what stronger partnerships and locally led action can achieve.

Our Executive Director, Fr Vincent Okoye represented JDPI as a panelist during the session on “𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗥𝗦’𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀,” sharing perspectives on localization and the importance of strong partnerships with national organisations.

Strong partnerships are essential to ensuring every child has access to the care they need.

JDPI Maiduguri recently convened a MAMI Coordination Workshop in Borno State, bringing together government stakeholders, health facilities, and partner organizations to strengthen collaboration and improve support for malnourished children and their caregivers.

The workshop provided a platform to strengthen referral pathways, align nutrition and health interventions, and develop practical actions for a more coordinated response. By working together, we can help ensure that children and caregivers receive timely, integrated care and are connected to the right services when they need them most.

We are grateful to all our partners for their commitment to improving child health and nutrition.

⚽ 𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗘: 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲 🕊️🤝

The "𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲" Football Tournament was more than a competition—it was a celebration of unity, friendship, and peaceful coexistence.

Organized under the 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 of the 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, funded by BMZ through Caritas international (in Germany), the tournament harnessed the power of football to strengthen relationships, foster dialogue, and build trust among 20 communities across Hong and Michika LGAs of Adamawa State.

In a unique demonstration of social cohesion, teams in the group stage were formed by pairing players from two different communities. This innovative approach encouraged cooperation, teamwork, mutual respect, and new friendships that extended far beyond the football pitch—reflecting the project's commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting lasting peace.

The tournament reached an exciting climax with a thrilling final between Kuburshosho and Hildi communities. After an intense contest, the champions were decided in a dramatic penalty shootout, with Kuburshosho Community lifting the trophy.

Beyond the action on the field, colourful cultural dance performances highlighted the rich heritage of the participating communities, reminding everyone that diversity is a source of strength and unity. The event concluded with the presentation of cash prizes to both the champions and runners-up in recognition of their dedication, teamwork, and outstanding sportsmanship.

The "𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲" initiative demonstrates that football is far more than a game—it is a powerful tool for dialogue, inclusion, reconciliation, and community resilience. As the final whistle blew, it marked not the end of the journey, but the beginning of stronger friendships, deeper trust, and a shared commitment to peaceful coexistence.

Every family has a story.

Some begin with uncertainty. Others unfold through resilience. But all become stories of hope.

Over the past six months, through the 𝙉𝙃𝙁-𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙉𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙨-𝘼𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙡𝙞 𝙇𝙂𝘼 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙬𝙖 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 project, we met mothers who walked long distances through difficult terrain so their children could access nutrition support. We met families rebuilding their lives, children finding protection, and communities coming together to care for one another.

𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 is a glimpse into those journeys. It reminds us that humanitarian work is, above all, about people—their resilience, their dignity, and their hope for a better tomorrow.
