In many communities, fathers are stepping forward as champions of nutrition, hygiene, and child well-being. They are known as Lead Fathers, they are volunteers who dedicate their time to educating fellow fathers on the importance of proper nutrition, child care, and healthy household practices.
To support their efforts, GHIV Africa, under the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) Save the Children International Nutrition Project, distributed mats and liquid soap to Lead Fathers across project communities.
This is more than just a distribution of items.
The liquid soap serves as a powerful reminder that regular handwashing can prevent illnesses such as diarrhea and infections which often constitute common threats that often worsen malnutrition among children.
The mats provide clean and safe spaces where families can care for infants and young children, reducing exposure to dirt and unhygienic conditions.
Most importantly, these items recognize and appreciate the commitment of Lead Fathers who continue to serve as role models, encouraging positive behavior change in their homes and communities.
When fathers practice and promote good hygiene, healthy feeding habits, and proper child care, children are more likely to grow healthier, stronger, and better protected from disease.
Every mat spread on a clean floor. Every hand washed with soap. Every father empowered to lead.
Together, these simple actions are helping build healthier families and brighter futures for children. United Nations OCHA Nigeria UNHCR Nigeria
