Zulum pays sympathy visit to Baga, warns against colluding with insurgents.
.. Inspects solar irrigation farms

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a stern warning to farming and fishing communities in Baga, urging them to refrain from any form of collaboration with Boko Haram insurgents.

Governor Zulum gave the warning on Wednesday while addressing residents at the palace of the District Head in Baga town. The governor expressed sympathy on the recent tragic event in Dumba community but emphasized the importance of abiding by military regulations to ensure the safety of the area.

"I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military. While we encourage agricultural efforts, it is crucial that our people remain law-abiding and adhere to the rules set forth by both the Nigerian military and Borno State government," Governor Zulum stated.

He further condemned the actions of individuals colluding with insurgents, calling it "unacceptable" and a direct threat to the region’s stability.
.. Zulum inspects Solar Irrigation Projects in Baga

As part of his visit to Baga, Governor Zulum also inspected the 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system being used for the cultivation of wheat and cassava in Mile 3.

The governor emphasized that this irrigation project marks a significant milestone in efforts to enhance farming activities and achieve food security not only in Borno State but across the nation.

In an interview, Governor Zulum highlighted the transformative potential of the solar irrigation system: "This irrigation scheme will be a game-changer in our efforts to boost agricultural production and ensure food sufficiency. Similar projects have already been launched in Damasak, Ngala, and other parts of the state."

The governor reiterated that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's vision of improving food security and livelihoods across Nigeria. "By adopting this solar-powered irrigation system, we are reducing the cost of food production to its minimum and making strides towards greater self-sufficiency," he added.

Governor Zulum also assured that his administration will continue to prioritize investments in wheat and cassava production, sectors in which Borno State has a comparative advantage. "After the wheat harvest, the entire 2,000 hectares of land will be used for cassava cultivation. With the adoption of solar irrigation, production costs will drop significantly," he concluded.

Similarly, in a carnival-like reception, Governor Zulum and his entourage were given warm reception in Kukawa town.

While addressing the inhabitants of the town, Zulum promised to step up the ongoing reconstruction work in areas of education, healthcare and other infrastructure.

The governor also addressed troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion where he lauded their gallantry and pledged the state government's continued support.

The governor was accompanied on the visit by the senator representing Borno North, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, member representing Marte, Monguno, Nganzai federal constituency, Engr. Bukar Talba, member representing Kukawa at the State Assembly, Hon Karta Maina Ma'aji, and other government officials.

Professor Jega made the commendation on Saturday in Mafa LGA at the commissioning of Ngarannam Livestock Improvement and Ranch Settlement constructed by Zulum’s administration, with the support of the federal government.

“I must say that I witnessed something I had never seen in our country today. We have seen today the vision of a leader, the passion and commitment to what clearly will help drive economic growth, uplift the lives and livelihood of people and provide employment to our citizens,” Prof Jega said.

“It is highly commendable and encouraging that Borno State has shown leadership and commitment to livestock development based on what we have seen at today’s event,” Jega added.

He also said, “It is gratifying that the state is ahead with the launching of the Annual Animal Vaccination Scheme and distribution of livestock for livelihood restoration and economic empowerment of the citizens. It is commendable that the state has both the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development and Borno State Livestock Management Agency (BOLMA).”

Delivering his address, Governor Zulum noted that Ngarannam Livestock Improvement and Ranch Settlement is a 4-square km project built for 461 nomadic families from eighteen communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

He said, “In addition to a house, each of the 461 families received pairs of bulls and heifers, goats, and a humanitarian relief package consisting of essential food and non-food items.”

“The project has facilities that include a housing estate with road networks, schools, health clinics, veterinary services, and state-of-the-art dairy and beef upgrading centres.”

“Other facilities are pasture development centres, milk collection centres, earth dams to secure water supply, markets to foster local trade, and security outposts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.”

According to him, while that of Ngarannam is commissioned, the other two are also at 90% completion stage. He said, “It is with immense gratitude and pride that I stand before you today to welcome you all as we commission Ngarannam RUGA as first in the list of the three livestock ranching centres (RUGA) located on Grazing Reserve across the three senatorial districts of Borno State.”

He added, “These centres symbolise our commitment to sustainable development, peaceful coexistence, and economic empowerment for our people. The remaining two RUGA centres will be commissioned in due course as the works have reached over 90 per cent completion..

Zulum subsidises petrol at N600 for farmers in communities affected by insurgency
.. Distributes farm inputs to 5,000 returnees

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced that the state government will subsidise the cost of petrol to farmers in communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

Zulum announced the subsidy on Friday evening in Bama town when he flagged off the distribution of farm inputs to over 5,000 farmers hitherto displaced by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to the governor, a litre of petrol sold between N1,000 and N1,200 in Maiduguri will be subsidised to the farmers for N600. This is aimed at alleviating the financial burdens faced by farmers in communities that have suffered economic and infrastructural destruction due to years of conflict.

Zulum emphasised that a similar initiative implemented in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area, last year has significantly increased food production and improved livelihoods.

“One of the major challenges that are facing the farming communities here as regards irrigation farming is the increasing cost of fuel, as a result, I want to announce to the general public that government will procure petroleum products and sell to the farmers at a subsided rate, a litre of petrol is being sold in Maiduguri at the cost of about N1,200 but in'shAllah, henceforth for irrigation farmers this season a litre of petrol will be sold at the rate of N600,” Zulum said.

The governor also said, “The Commissioner for Agriculture will work with the Brigade Commander to ensure the delivery of the petroleum products to farmers in Bama town as soon as possible.”

In addition to the petrol subsidy, Zulum distributed farm inputs, including 2000 bags of blended NPK fertiliser, 1000 units of water pumps, and 620 units of gasoline pumps.

Other materials include 380 units of solar water pumps, 1000 units of sprayers, 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hose, and 1000 litres of pesticides and seeds, among other items.

According to him, his administration has constructed over 100 tube wells for use by irrigation farmers while also announcing the approval for the construction of an additional 250.

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has also visited Darajama and Goniri villages under Bama Local Government to assess the ongoing reconstruction work.

Zulum expressed satisfaction with the quality of the project but also reiterated that his administration will not allow anyone to sabotage its resettlement drive.

The governor expressed gratitude to the federal government for the tremendous support of his administration’s reconstruction and resettlement of communities affected by insurgency.
