Borno ACReSAL Conducts Community Revolving Fund (CRF) pre disbursement engagement with LGPMC in uba/Askira LGA.

The Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project conducted a pivotal pre-disbursement engagement with the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) in the Uba/Askira Local Government Area of Borno State.

This significant event took place at Achima Luxury Suites.

Key Highlights of the Engagement:


In his opening remarks, Mr. Ayuba Peter, Project Coordinator of Borno ACReSAL, was represented by Shehu Yakubu Gana. Acknowledging the attendance of the LGPMC members, he emphasized the importance of their role in the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) initiative.

Shehu Yakubu Gana highlighted that the CRF is a non-grant loan initiative aimed at fostering self-reliance among community members.
- LGPMC members, being respected leaders within their communities, are entrusted with identifying and endorsing trustworthy beneficiaries for the CRF.

Loan Repayment Emphasis:
- He urged the LGPMC to facilitate timely repayments within a seven-month window, which is crucial for allowing broader community access to the CRF.

The Focal NGO Dr. Ngare Dogo, Executive Director of the Global Environmental Response Initiative, announced the impending launch of the CRF by the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, emphasizing that it would allow community members to access the fund following the program's official introduction.

Representatives from communities including Uba A, B, and C, Chul, and Uvu participated in the engagement. Dr. Dogo stressed the necessity of updating all relevant documentation to ensure a smooth disbursement to various Community Interest Groups (CIGs).

Additional Remarks by Mr. Samson Mshelia, CRF desk officer, and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer Mr. Bukar Madu Goba stressed the importance of this engagement for seamless fund disbursement.

The Chairman of Uba Askira Local Government, Honourable Mada Saidu represented by Director of General Service and Administration Abdulkarim Musa, expressed gratitude for the ACReSAL project, noting its potential to reduce poverty and enhance livelihoods in the community. He assured that the community would repay the loans as outlined.

Revalidation Exercise:

The event also featured a revalidation exercise for Boards of Trustees (BOTs), CRF,GRM, (CRFMCs), and Community Interest Groups (CIGs), along with the updating of Business Plans to ensure suitable beneficiary selection.

Interactive Session:

The engagement concluded with an interactive session where attendees could ask questions. Officials addressed participants' queries, reinforcing the commitment to transparency and active community involvement in the project.

This pre-disbursement engagement marks a crucial step in the implementation of the CRF, signaling a concerted effort to empower communities economically and promote sustainable development in Borno State.

Borno ACReSAL Conducts Pre-Disbursement Revalidation exercise of BOTs, CRFMCs, CIGs and updating of Business Plans for CRF implementation in Ngamdu Catchment in Kaga LGA.

The Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has successfully carried out the revalidation of the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) management structures for Ngamdu and Tamsu Kawu local Communities.

The revalidations exercise included the BOT, CRMFCs, CIGs including updating of Business Plans of the various CIG groups.

This significant event took place in Ngamdu, Kaga Local Government Area, involving ACReSAL staff and members of
CRFMCs and CIG
beneficiaries from Tamsu-Kawu and Ngamdu A, B, and C communities.

During the validation exercise, Mr. Samson Mshelia, the Desk Officer of the CRF, alongside Dr. Ngare Dogo, the Executive Director of Global Environmental Responds Initiative (GERI), emphasized the importance of validating CIGs was to ensure that the revalidated beneficiaries will now receive support from the CRF implementation without hitch.

Also contibuting, Mallam Usman Mohammed Inuwa, the Social and Livelihood Officer of Yobe ACReSAL, who came to lend support and hand holding to Borno ACReSAL addressed the communities, highlighting that all necessary criteria and regulatory conditions for the CRF have been met. He encouraged the residents to utilize the funds judiciously, noting that the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, is set to launch the CRF soon. The launching of the CRF Disbursement will facilitate the agricultural activities in the state as the rain season is just around the corner.

Additionally, Mallam Usman urged the community members to begin preparations for their farms, emphasizing the need to recover loans within seven months to ensure continuous access to funds for self-reliance.

He remarked that timely repayment would enable a cycle of support for future beneficiaries.

Representing the project coordinator Mr. Ayuba Peter, Shehu Yakubu Gana also urged the community to prioritize timely loan repayment so as to allow others to benefit from the program.

The event was concluded with an interactive session, during which community members raised questions that were addressed by the officials present, reinforcing the importance of transparency and community engagement in the project. The exercise will continue tomorrow after which the ACReSAL staff will proceed to Uba catchment for similar exercise.

Borno ACReSAL Conducts Community Revolving Fund Pre-Disbursement Engagement for Kaga LGA.

The Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project held a pre-disbursement engagement session with the community of Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State regarding the Community Revolving Fund (CRF).

The event took place at the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) hall in Maiduguri.

Mr. Ayuba Peter, the Project Coordinator for Borno ACReSAL, represented by Shehu Yakubu Gana, the project accountant, welcomed the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) and emphasized the importance of this engagement in helping participants understand the CRF. He explained that the CRF operates as a non-free loan aimed at promoting self-reliance among farmers, assuring them of its relevance to smart agriculture and improving livelihoods.

During the session, Mr. Bukar Madu Goba, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, highlighted the initiative's impact in supporting farmers and vulnerable communities. He assured attendees that all Community Interest Groups would undergo validation to ensure that the right beneficiaries are selected for the CRF.

The Chairman of Kaga Local Government, Honourable Zanna Lawan Ajimi, expressed gratitude to ACReSAL for the initiative and assured the attendees that the funds would be recovered responsibly. He appealed for more communities to be included in the CRF to extend its benefits.

Secretary of Kaga Local Government, Zanna Mai, thanked ACReSAL and the World Bank for involving their locality in the CRF initiative and promised full support for its implementation.

The CRF Committee is set to continue its engagement by visiting Ngamdu and Uba Askira local governments for similar discussions.

The event also featured an interactive session where participants raised inquiries regarding the loan recovery process, which were addressed adequately by the project representatives.

Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project holds a one-day workshop to present the approved 10 Micro Catchment Management Plan (CMP) report to stakeholders. The plan focuses on mitigating climate change, enhancing water availability, and supporting local farmers. Consultants presented key findings, including land degradation, poor waste management, and limited irrigation capacity. Recommendations included expanding water infrastructure and restoring soil through conservation agriculture.
