Awareness Campaign Against Bush Burning: Borno ACReSAL Continues Engagement.
The Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has ramped up its awareness campaign against bush burning, by conducting educational visits to the Bama and Magumeri Local Governments.
This initiative seeks to alert communities about the severe dangers associated with bush burning, including land degradation and decreased agricultural yields.
During the Bama outreach, Project Coordinator Mr. Ayuba Peter, represented by Communication Officer Timothy Butu Mwada, addressed attendees about the detrimental impacts of bush burning. He underscored how the practice not only destroys property but also adversely affects the environment, ultimately threatening agricultural productivity in the area. Mr. Mwada emphasized the urgent need to protect the local environment, urging residents to adopt preventative measures against bush burning.
Ahmadu Isa, a Fire Prevention Training Officer from the Fire Service, provided detailed insights into various types of fires, discussing their causes and prevention strategies specifically designed for safeguarding community resources.
In an interactive session, community members participated in practical demonstrations on effective fire control measures during emergencies, empowering them with essential skills to manage and mitigate fire-related risks.
Key community figures, including Word Head of Kajeri Babagana Lawan and Farmers Association Secretary Comrade Bura, expressed their gratitude for the vital information shared. They committed to implementing the knowledge gained in their respective roles within the community.
Furthermore, Honorable Modu Ali Gujja, Executive Chairman of Bama Local Government, highlighted the legal ramifications of bush burning and tree cutting, reminding residents of strict enforcement measures against violators.
To further education efforts, informative flyers detailing the causes of bush burning and actionable prevention strategies were distributed to attendees.
The ACReSAL team continued its outreach with a successful event in Magumeri Local Government. Community leaders warmly thanked the team for the valuable insights shared during the campaign and pledged to apply the information within their communities.
Bukar Mustapha expressed appreciation for ACReSAL’s initiative, recognizing its importance in fostering a culture of environmental awareness.
