Kogi NEWMAP-EIB today hosted staff and students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, on an educational field visit aimed at exposing participants to environmental management initiatives and erosion control efforts within Kogi State.

The delegation was led by Dr. Lawrence Ibrahim, accompanied by lecturers and students who actively participated in the engaging and interactive session.

Speaking during the visit, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Abbas Abdullahi Yahaya, gave an overview of Kogi NEWMAP-EIB, highlighting the project’s objectives, scope, and planned interventions aimed at addressing environmental challenges and improving the resilience of vulnerable communities across the state.

One of the highlights of the visit was a picture story session, during which participants were taken through visual presentations of various erosion sites across Kogi State. The session provided valuable insights into the nature and extent of erosion challenges affecting different communities and underscored the need for timely and sustainable interventions.

The interactive engagement also featured a question and answer session, where lecturers and students sought clarification on various aspects of the project. The questions were thoroughly addressed by the State Project Coordinator, fostering meaningful discussions and enhancing participants’ understanding of the project.

The visit concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bamidele Femi, who appreciated the management and staff of Kogi NEWMAP-EIB for the warm reception, informative discussions, and the opportunity given to students to gain practical insights into environmental management and erosion control initiatives.

Kogi NEWMAP-EIB Participates in National Climate Project Readiness Workshop in Asaba

The Kogi State Project Implementation Unit of NEWMAP-EIB is currently participating in the ongoing Capacity Building and Project Implementation Readiness Workshop holding in Asaba, Delta State, alongside representatives from 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory under the European Investment Bank assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation, Erosion and Watershed Project.

The five day workshop, which commenced on Monday, is organized under the Joint Mission of the Government of Nigeria, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), and State Project Implementation Units (SPIUs).

Speaking during the opening session, the National Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks, urged participants to fully align with the technical and operational standards of the European Investment Bank project framework to ensure effective implementation and sustainable results.

He emphasized the importance of professionalism, accountability, compliance with project procedures, and collaboration among participating states and development partners in driving successful project delivery across the country.

Also speaking, Senior Project Manager of , Mr. Donato Serena, noted that the project is gradually transitioning into full implementation. He explained that the workshop is designed to strengthen collaboration, build technical capacity, and prepare participating states for seamless project ex*****on.

The workshop features intensive sessions on procurement planning, project management, donor compliance procedures, environmental and social safeguards, finance, monitoring and evaluation, as well as field visits aimed at exposing participants to practical implementation realities.

Kogi NEWMAP-EIB remains committed to strengthening institutional capacity and aligning with global best practices in delivering sustainable climate adaptation, erosion control, and watershed management interventions across Kogi State.

Kogi NEWMAP-EIB, CPI Push for Sustainable Flood Solutions in Ganaja.

Kogi NEWMAP-EIB has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting flood resilience efforts in Ganaja Community following an advocacy visit by the Challenge Parenthood Initiative (CPI) and representatives of the community.

Speaking during the meeting in Lokoja, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Yahaya Abdullahi Abbas, described Ganaja as a strategic community that deserves urgent attention due to the recurring floods affecting residents year after year.

He assured the delegation that Kogi NEWMAP-EIB is ready to work closely with the community to improve safety and strengthen resilience against future flooding. As part of immediate support, the agency will provide life jackets for residents and boat operators. Dr. Abbas also noted that improvement works on the Nyanmayama Road through the 500 Housing Unit Estate is being considered among interventions to be addressed before the end of the current project phase to improve access during flood periods.

Dr. Abbas further stated that technical assessments would be carried out for the proposed boreholes requested in vulnerable parts of the community.

Earlier, the Executive Director of CPI, Eunice Abimbola Agbogun, said the visit was aimed at deepening collaboration and drawing attention to the urgent needs of Ganaja Community. She noted that the yearly floods continue to displace families, destroy livelihoods, and affect access to essential services.

The advocacy engagement, supported by Heinrich Böll Stiftung and Arctic Infrastructure, focused on advancing the Ganaja Charter of Demand and strengthening collective action toward sustainable flood resilience.

Kogi NEWMAP-EIB remains committed to working with communities and stakeholders to build safer, stronger, and more resilient environments across Kogi State.
