Every Child Deserves Education, Not Exploitation.
Growing up, I was privileged to attend some of the best schools. My parents, especially my mom, made sure of that. Education was never something I had to fight for; it was a gift that was intentionally provided for me.
But I also remember children in my neighborhood whose reality was very different. While I was getting ready for school each morning, some of them were already helping with demanding household responsibilities, hawking goods on the streets, or working long hours when they should have been in a classroom.
At that age, I didn't fully understand the difference. We were all children, yet our childhood experiences were worlds apart.
Today, as we observe World Day Against Child Labour, we are reminded that childhood is meant for learning, growth, play, and discovery ,not exploitation. Every child deserves the opportunity to go to school, dream freely, and develop their potential in a safe environment.
Child labour steals more than a child's time. It steals opportunities, limits potential, and often traps children in cycles of poverty that can last for generations. When children are forced to work instead of learn, society loses future teachers, doctors, engineers, leaders, and innovators.
This is why protecting children is everyone's responsibility. Parents, educators, community leaders, governments, and young people all have a role to play. We must advocate for quality education, support vulnerable families, speak up when we see children being exploited, and create communities where every child has the chance to thrive.
As we mark this day, let us remember that every child deserves a pencil before a paycheck, a classroom before a workplace, and a future filled with possibilities rather than limitations.
Because every child deserves education, not exploitation.
