INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2026

Today, we proudly join people around the world in marking International Women’s Day 2026, a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the strength, resilience, and remarkable contributions of women everywhere.

This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” emphasizes the urgent need for governments, institutions, and individuals to go beyond words and take practical steps to guarantee that every woman and girl has access to equal rights, safety, opportunities, and respect.

At Albarka Relief Foundation (ARF), we recognize that empowering women and girls is key to building resilient families and thriving communities. Through initiatives such as our skill acquisition programs, educational support, empowerment efforts, and the Pad-a-Girl project, we remain dedicated to promoting inclusion, equality, and opportunities that enable women and girls to reach their full potential.

While today is a time to celebrate, it is also a reminder that achieving gender equality requires united and consistent effort. We must continue to advocate for women’s rights, pursue justice where inequalities exist, and take meaningful actions that foster lasting transformation within our communities.

As we commemorate this special day, we honor the courage, leadership, and contributions of women across the globe, while renewing our commitment to a future where every woman and girl can live with dignity, opportunity, and freedom.
Happy International Women’s Day 2026!

On the 15th of February 2026, we proudly celebrated the Graduation and Empowerment Ceremony of the Albarka Relief Foundation (ARF) Skill Acquisition Program 2025/2026

It was a remarkable day filled with joy, pride, and hope as our beneficiaries completed their training across various skill areas.

A project that started as a vision to equip individuals with practical, life-changing skills has once again become a reality.

Through months of dedication, hands-on training, mentorship, and resilience, our graduands have proven that empowerment goes beyond certificates. It is about confidence, capacity, and the courage to build a sustainable future.

As part of the empowerment phase, our beneficiaries received tools, starter packs, and support materials to help them transition from training to earning. This is the heart of our mission: not just allowing them to learn skills, but creating the avenue for financial independence and community impact.

We are deeply grateful to our donors, sponsors, partners, trainers, and volunteers who made this possible. Your support continues to transform lives and strengthen families.

To our graduands: This is only the beginning. Go forth, build, grow, and inspire others. The future is yours!

CSOS DEMAND STRONGER ACTION TO END PHYSICAL, DIGITAL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, GIRLS IN KOGI.

A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) and non-governmental groups has renewed its call for stronger, more coordinated action to eliminate both physical and digital violence against women and girls in Kogi State.

The coalition held a peaceful road walk in Lokoja as part of activities marking the 2025 Global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual international campaign aimed at raising awareness and mobilising efforts to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

During the rally, the organisations expressed serious concern over the increasing cases of r**e, assault, and online harassment reported across the state. They noted that tackling gender-based violence requires urgent collaboration among government agencies, security institutions, community leaders, and the public.

Barr. Lilian Okolo, Coalition Team Lead for the Kogi 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, said the campaign seeks to push stakeholders toward stronger commitment and action.

“We are here to demand stronger action. Violence—whether physical or digital—must not be tolerated. Women and girls deserve safety, dignity, and justice.”

Amb. Idris Muraina, Executive Director of the Renaissance Care and Empowerment Foundation (RECEF), described the rising cases of r**e and abuse as alarming.

“The statistics of r**e and abuse in Kogi are worrying. We need better reporting systems, care-giving centres, faster prosecution, and community-driven preventive mechanisms.”

Responding to the concerns raised, Hajia Bilikisu Raji, Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups.

“Government is committed to protecting women and children. We will continue to intensify advocacy and work closely with partners to enforce the VAPP law across the state. We assure you that all your demands will be given adequate attention.”

Also speaking, Barr. Joy Akinola, Kogi State Coordinator, African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), emphasized the need for justice and legal support for survivors.

“Justice must be accessible to survivors. We are pushing for stronger legal safeguards and more support services for victims of gender-based violence.”

The coalition reiterated that ending gender-based violence requires collective responsibility, sustained advocacy, and continuous public education—especially as digital spaces become increasingly unsafe for women and girls.

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM: Kogi CSOs Join PDCRC to Deepen Fight Against Gender-Based Violence.

The fight against Gender-Based Violence in Kogi State has received a major boost as a coalition of civil society organizations joined forces with the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission (PDCRC) to intensify the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law across the state.

As part of activities marking the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with the theme “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” the coalition emphasized the growing threat of online abuse and its devastating consequences on women and girls.

Speaking during the event, Barr. Lilian Okolo, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, said the collaboration with the PDCRC is timely, noting that digital violence has become a major barrier to women’s participation in governance, education, and economic life.

She stressed that such harmful acts not only affect the mental and emotional well-being of victims but also silence their voices, limit civic engagement, and widen gender inequality. According to her, uniting stakeholders is key to ensuring full enforcement of the VAPP Law and protecting vulnerable groups.

On his part, the Director-General of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission, Barr. Musa Onogo Idris, appreciated the organizations for their unwavering commitment. He assured them of stronger institutional collaboration that would enhance the fight against all forms of violence and reduce the burden on individual agencies working in isolation.

Other speakers, including representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Police Force, youth groups, Albarka Relief Foundation, and FOMWAN, reaffirmed their commitment to justice for survivors and community-wide action against Gender-Based Violence.

Kogi NGOs, NHRC Strengthen Collaboration to End Gender-Based Violence.

Civil society organizations in Kogi State have joined forces with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in a renewed effort to end all forms of gender-based violence, with a special focus on digital violence against women and girls.

The coalition made this known as they commenced activities marking the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with this year’s theme: “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”

Speaking during the event, representatives of the NGOs noted that technology—while offering countless opportunities—has also become a new frontier for harm. They warned that women and girls increasingly face online harassment, image-based abuse, stalking, and coercive control through digital platforms.

They emphasized that such acts not only affect the mental and emotional well-being of victims but also silence their voices, restrict civic participation, and reduce economic opportunities for women and girls.

According to the organizers, the theme for this year is more than a slogan—it is a call for stronger collective action across communities, institutions, and digital platforms. They stressed the need to make online spaces safer, equitable, and respectful for all users.

The partnership between Kogi NGOs and the NHRC aims to push for awareness, reporting, policy engagement, and community mobilization to address both physical and digital forms of violence.

The groups called on the public, especially stakeholders in government, security agencies, tech platforms, and families, to remain committed to the fight against gender-based violence during the 16 Days of Activism and beyond.

They reaffirmed that through united efforts, safer digital and physical spaces for women and girls can be achieved.
