The Newsroom AI Policy Guidance Resources were developed by Safer-Media Initiative under its Artificial Intelligence and Media (AIM) Project, supported by the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and coordinated by UNESCO's Regional Office for West Africa in Dakar.

Dr. Lemmy Ughegbe, a veteran journalist and communications expert, reviewed the Newsroom AI Policy Guidance resources developed by Safer-Media Initiative during their unveiling in Abuja.

He described AI as the “new oracle” of journalism, capable of delivering information at remarkable speed and with a high degree of confidence, but cautioned that it could also produce convincing errors.

Safer-Media Initiative (SMI) has unveiled three policy resources designed to guide the responsible adoption and governance of artificial intelligence (AI) in Nigerian newsrooms.

The resources—Editorial Policy Guidance on Artificial Intelligence for Nigerian Newsrooms, AI Readiness Guide for Newsrooms in Nigeria, and Gender-Sensitive AI Policy Guidance for Nigerian Newsrooms—were unveiled on Friday in Abuja during the Official Presentation of the Newsroom AI Policy Guidance Resources, attended by media executives, senior editors, journalists, and other stakeholders.

The official presentation forms part of a broader national dissemination strategy that will see the resources promoted among media organisations across Nigeria to encourage institutional adoption and support the development of newsroom policies capable of balancing technological innovation with the ethics of the journalism profession.

The resources were developed under the Artificial Intelligence and Media (AIM) Project: Navigating the Present and Shaping the Future, an initiative implemented by Safer-Media Initiative with funding support from the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and coordinated by UNESCO’S Regional Office for West Africa in Dakar Bureau régional de l'Unesco à Dakar

We hereby state for the record that: Safer-Media Initiative has no branch, office, or representation in Taraba State. The person presenting himself as CEO of Safer-Media Initiative, Taraba State Branch has never been appointed, recognised, or authorised by our organisation.

The only recognised CEO of Safer-Media Initiative is Peter Iorter. Any contrary claims are fraudulent and without authority.

Members of the public, government agencies, and partner organisations are advised to disregard any communications, solicitations, or representations made by this impersonator.

Safer-Media Initiative will not tolerate impersonation, misrepresentation, or fraud of any kind. Any individual or group engaging in such unlawful acts will be treated as committing a criminal offense.

We shall immediately initiate formal legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, to ensure prosecution, damages, and injunctions against the offender.
