Stand Against Mob Violence: Together We Can Bring To An End Mob Violence (Jungle Justice) in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, mob violence has claimed hundreds of lives in recent years. Our report Instantly Killed! How Law Enforcement Failures Exacerbate Nigeria’s Wave of Mob Violence shows the brutal reality.

“Between January 2012 and August 2023, at least 555 people were victims of mob violence in 363 documented incidents”
Instead of fair trials, people, often accused without any evidence, are dragged from their homes, beaten, stoned, or burned alive. Police failures, deep mistrust in the justice system, and unchecked rumours mean perpetrators walk free while grieving families are left with no justice.

No one is safe. Women, children, persons with disabilities and young people can all become targets. From petty theft to alleged blasphemy, mob violence spares no one. In the infamous Aluu Four case, four university students were lynched for alleged theft. In Bauchi, Talle Mai Ruwa, a man with a mental health condition, was burned alive after being accused of blasphemy.

Mob violence is often sparked by rumours and false accusations. Nigeria has obligations under international and regional human rights laws to protect the right to life, dignity and prevent arbitrary killings, but it continues to fail its people.

My heart goes out to the people of Benue State and Nigeria during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of over 200 lives is devastating, and my thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and communities affected by this senseless violence. I strongly condemn this brutal attack and the heinous loss of lives.

The Federal Government of Nigeria must take immediate and decisive action to ensure justice for the victims and their families, and to protect citizens from this kinds of atrocities in the future. I align my thoughts with the words of Late General Sani Abacha which says and I quote “Any Insurgency that lasts more than 24 hours, a government official has a hand in it.”
Enough to all these insecurities in our country! Enough to trading with the lives of Nigerians!! Enough to politicizing the well-being and development of our dear country, Nigeria, enough to all these rubbish!!!

I appeal to the conscience of Heads of security personnel in Nigeria (that's, if they have any) to stop disturbing and harassing the citizens protesting peacefully over the killing of their fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, brothers, sister, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Over 200 hundred lives murdered within 24 hours, is not acceptable.

We have to hold our governments accountable and responsible for this heinous loss of life in Benue state.

May the affected communities find strength and support in the face of this tragedy.

BENEFITS TO MEMBERSHIP
Members of the Association shall enjoy the following benefits, rights and privileges:
1. A member is entitled to Membership Certificate with Personal Identification Number written therein.
2. A member is entitled to receiving a soft copy (electronic copy) of the Association’s Constitution via the email address provided while filling the membership form.
3. A member is entitled to the Association’s Periodic Newsletter via the email address provided while filling the membership form.
4. A member is qualified to attend the Association’s functions, (conferences, seminars, leadership trainings, empowerment summits, Annual General Meetings-AGMs, etc) so long as he/she is capable of transporting self to the venue of the function.
5. A member stands the chance to be a sponsored delegate of the Association to any international conference/summit (so long as he/she passes the selection criteria).
6. A member is qualified to write and submit article when called upon for publication in the Association’s magazines or journals, (so long as the article passes the editorial criteria, publication of members’ article is free).
7. A member is qualified to participate in the Association’s Young leaders and Social Influencers' seven (7) days Conference.
8. A student-member (undergraduate) is qualified to apply for the Association's yearly student's study grant of not more than One Million Naira (NGN 1,000,000.00) when advertised for.
9. A member who has registered business/organization is qualified to apply for the Association's Empowerment grant of not more than Five Million Naira (NGN 5,000,000.00) when advertised for.
10. A member of the Association shall have the honor of contributing his/her quota in youths’ capacity building projects within his/her community.
11. A member stands the chance to submit youths’ capacity building project proposal (when called for), and if the proposal meets the standard requirement, shall get the Association’s financial sponsor.
12. A member of the Association has honorably accepted to be a youth-leader in-training.
