The Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI) has applauded the Central Bank of Nigeria’s latest directive aimed at strengthening the security and resilience of Nigeria’s digital financial ecosystem.
With measures such as:
🔹 ₦20,000 transaction cap within 24 hours of mobile app activation
🔹 Mandatory device binding
🔹 Real-time fraud monitoring systems
🔹 Multi-factor authentication (biometrics & tokens)
🔹 Enhanced onboarding with BVN/NIN validation
🔹 Customer-controlled opt-in/opt-out features
This framework represents a proactive step in mitigating fraud, identity theft, and unauthorized access.
CRMI highlights that while these measures are commendable, effective implementation is critical. Financial institutions must go beyond compliance by investing in cybersecurity, fraud analytics, staff training, and customer awareness.
