A Story in 90 Days
When I was 6 years old, I had a dream I couldn’t explain.
I was singing.
Not in my room. Not in my church.
I was walking from Papa Ayo’s house then in Bendel Estate, GRA Ogborikoko, down Airport Road...
all the way to Ajamimogha, Effurun-Warri.
To the gates of Word of Life Bible Church.
And beside me? Giants.
Shirley Caesar. Marvin Winans. Andraé Crouch. James Cleveland.
Voices that turned gospel music into revival.
We were singing together like we knew each other.
Right before we stepped into the compound, I woke up.
I was 6.
I didn’t even know what WLBC was then.
But only God gives the picture of a future you won't forget.
15 years later, at 21, I stood on the same kind of stage.
Singing with Marvin Winans. First at Faith Arena Church Of God Mission Benin and later at House Of The Rock Church In Lagos.
Bishop Feb Idahosa had brought The Rev Marvin Winans and His Crew to Nigeria.
And just like that, the boy in the dream met the man in reality.
That Dream would eventually birth DC ENVOYS when I turned 19.
An Acappella Group like Nigeria had never Known.
We didn’t just do harmonies. We carried atmosphere.
We took pidgin and put it in worship.
People said, “That one no go work.”
Today, that sound is in the air we breathe.
I called it the tardy-tap gospel.
Old people cried. Young people danced.
The diaspora called us. Communities opened for us.
But let me be honest with you...
I’ve seen the mountain top.
And I’ve seen the valley.
I’ve seen talent celebrated, then used.
Then abused. Then abandoned.
I’ve tasted rejection. Denial. Silence. Brokenness
Yet in all of it, I learned one thing:
*“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”*
_2 Corinthians 12:9_
I am not where I dreamed I’d be.
But by God’s mercy, I am not where I started.
All these roads I’ve walked — across this nation when you could still travel freely —
all the lessons, the scars, the glory...
I am persuaded to package.
