DRASA - Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Health Trust

DRASA - Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Health Trust Founded in memory of Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh. DRASA was established in memory of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh.

We are developing a network of Health Champions who are catalysts of change while also working with federal, state and local institutions to shape public policy and institutionalise disease prevention. DRASA Health Trust is a public health organization working with government, local and international partners, community leaders, students, and health workers to promote hygiene and adequate sanitati

on, reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness for health emergencies. She identified and contained Nigeria's first Ebola patient despite pressure from a foreign government to release him - preventing a major outbreak in Africa's most populous country - but lost her life in the process. Through DRASA, we continue her legacy of protecting public health.

Following review of baseline assessment findings for the Strengthening Community Participation for Disease Prevention and Early Detection (SCOPED) intervention by Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, the Director of Bwari Primary Health Care, Dr Mogaji Bashir, expressed support for implementation and committed to ongoing collaboration. This reflects growing alignment on community-based surveillance for timely disease detection and response.

Lasting impact happens when governments and community stakeholders work together for a solution, from day one. This is one of the messages that stood out at the Skoll World Forum 2026.

At Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, we continue to enable co-creation between communities and the government, to sustain disease prevention.

Health Champions begin with people who notice warning signs and choose to act. In Oyo State, DRASA Health Trust, through TASO and SCOPED engagements, is strengthening community surveillance, reporting, and response systems in Ona-Ara LGA. By working with state stakeholders, we are helping communities detect threats earlier, respond faster, and build confidence that their voices and reports will lead to action.

What can we learn from Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh's leadership during the 2014 Ebola outbreak? And what lessons can we apply to prevent another outbreak?

Join our Director of Programs, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oluwagbohun, live on RadioNow 95.3 FM today at 2:30 PM (GMT+1; Nigerian time) as she explores lessons from Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh and the actions needed to strengthen Nigeria’s defense against another infectious disease threat.

In Oyo State, DRASA Health Trust is strengthening infection prevention, community surveillance, and early response systems through TASO and SCOPED engagements in Ona-Ara LGA. Working with state health stakeholders, we are helping build systems that listen, adapt, and respond faster to threats while developing Health Champions and community-based response structures.

Too often, health solutions are designed far from the communities they are meant to serve.

As one participant at Skoll World Forum 2026 put it:

"We need to dismantle the tables and go build where the people already live, sleep, and survive."

Strong health systems are not built in conference rooms alone. They are built through participation, collaboration, and meaningful engagement with communities.

Connection is not a line item in a budget or a sub-clause in a grant proposal. It is the infrastructure that makes lasting health impact possible.

For us at Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, this affirms what we know to be true: sustainable health security starts with people, from grassroots communities to government, working together to develop Health Champions and strengthen systems that last.

We cannot separate our health from the world around us.

This World Environment Day reminds us that every clean environment is a line of defense against diseases. Through the One Health approach, what happens to our planet, animals, and people is all connected.

When we protect our environment, we protect each other.

Outbreaks often begin in homes and neighborhoods, which is why communities must remain at the center of disease prevention.

Through the SCOPED intervention by Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and state partners, we are strengthening community surveillance through the Community Health Champions model. Everyday, we equip health champions to detect risks early, promote safer practices, and support prevention in communities.

Across three states, stakeholders are now co-creating stronger, community led surveillance practices that shift prevention from reaction to ownership.

In three primary healthcare centres in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, infection prevention is becoming a daily discipline.

At the centre of this are three nurses, our Health Champions: Fatimoh, Munirat, and Barakat, serving as Infection Prevention and Control focal persons in their facilities.

Through continuous on-the-job mentoring and supervisory support from Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, they are strengthening safe care practices, protecting patients, and mentoring their peers to sustain infection prevention and control in everyday service delivery.

This reflects a key goal, moving healthcare workers from knowledge to sustained practice.

Human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected, especially in the fight against infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. The recent Skoll World Forum reinforced this important message.

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust was proud to contribute to this important dialogue alongside global leaders across the One Health ecosystem.

A key takeaway from the session was that while One Health is widely understood in principle, putting it into practice remains a challenge due to siloed systems across sectors and disciplines.

At DRASA, we align with Nigeria's One Health National Action Plan 2.0, which promotes integrated, people-centered approaches to surveillance, preparedness, response, and community participation across human, animal, and environmental health systems.
