We are not just victims of climate change. Sometimes we are contributors.

It is easy to point fingers at the government or at the system or at the environment itself but what about the everyday little things we ignore??

This year's Mother Earth Day theme "OUR POWER, OUR PLANET" is a reminder that change is not just global but also very personal..

From ICEHD, This is a reminder for you as a person to use your own power to save your planet!

Happy Mother Earth Day!!

In many communities, the journey to childbirth does not begin in a hospital, it begins at home, supported by trusted hands.

This is why strengthening community knowledge and support systems is critical.

On January 22, 2026, the Birth Right Advocacy Program was successfully held at Baale Hall, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, bringing together 54 participants including traditional birth attendants, pregnant women, caregivers, community leaders, and health officials.

Organised by ICEHD in partnership with LEAD Foundation and with Martins Lydia Foundation support, the workshop focused on empowering those at the frontline of maternal care with practical, life-saving knowledge.

Participants were trained on:
• Safe maternal and newborn health practices
• Early warning signs and disability prevention
• Body autonomy and informed decision-making
• Trauma management and holistic care

One key message stood out, the people closest to women must be equipped to support them safely.

From understanding safe pregnancy and newborn care, to body autonomy, trauma support, and early warning signs, every session was a step toward safer births and healthier futures.

To reinforce this, delivery survival kits were distributed, ensuring that traditional birth attendants and caregivers are better prepared to support safe deliveries within their communities.

Because in many communities, traditional birth attendants are not just helpers, they are lifelines.

And when they are equipped, supported, and empowered,
entire communities become safer for women and children.

Beyond the training, the workshop created a space for open dialogue, shared experiences, and collective commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes.

This is what community-led health advocacy looks like.
This is how lives are protected.

Empowering women farmers is one of the most effective ways to build climate resilience and strengthen food systems.

Through the Grassroots-Driven Climate Action Project (Year 2), ICEHD successfully trained 100 rural women farmers across Epe, Iju, Ikorodu, and the Rose of Sharon Foundation in Lagos State with support from the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) African Women's Development Fund

Over two days, participants engaged in:
✔ Climate-smart agriculture and agroecology practices
✔ Soil improvement using low-cost, local solutions
✔ Hands-on production of organic compost and pesticides
✔ Vegetable farming, pest and disease management
✔ Farm business development, marketing, and income diversification

Beyond training, women received practical tools and inputs, including solar irrigation equipment, organic fertilizers, and organic seeds, enabling immediate application on their farms.

Stronger skills, increased confidence, improved productivity potential, and a growing network of women supporting each other. These women are now better equipped to face climate challenges head-on. This is what climate action looks like at the grassroots: practical, inclusive, and sustainable.

ICEHD in collaboration with VSI and ROSF held a Webinar on March 9th to commemorate International Women's Day.

The webinar engaged in legal discussions with a panel of lawyers from across Africa to explore gender justice and expose the main theme for International Women's Day 2026- Rights, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls and clarifying expectations for women inclusion and gender-responsive governance.

This includes the import of the campaign themes of "Give to Gain, and "Balance the Scale". Women and girls are demanding:

•Respect for the rule of law and gender friendly law enforcement.

•Gender-just policies and initiatives that respond equally to the concerns of women.

•That government policy and development commitments must translate to real gains for women and girls.

•Women inclusion at all levels as a sure path to sustainable development. We give to gain.
