NYCN Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch Observes Peaceful Ward H (C3) Councillorship By-Election

Earlier today, 23rd June 2026, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch, participated as an observer in the Ward H (C3) Councillorship By-Election.

Led by the Branch Program Officer, Comrade Ismaila Waheed Idowu, the observation team visited polling units across the ward and observed a peaceful, transparent, and orderly electoral process, with electoral officials arriving early and voting conducted without major incidents.

At the conclusion of voting and collation, Hon. Samiat Shotayo was declared the winner of the by-election. Her emergence represents another significant step for youth inclusion and active participation in grassroots governance within Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.

The Branch congratulates Hon. Samiat Shotayo on her well-deserved victory and commends the leadership of Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande, Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, for fostering an environment that continues to encourage youth participation in governance.

NYCN Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch remains committed to promoting democratic values, transparency, accountability, and meaningful youth engagement in the governance process.

Yesterday 19th of June 2026, the NYCN Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch proudly participated in the Youth and Governance Symposium held at the University of Lagos.

Our Branch was represented with distinction, recording one of the highest, if not the largest, delegations at the event. This impressive turnout was made possible through the mobility support provided by our youth friendly Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande (JAKO), whose commitment to youth development remains commendable.

The symposium brought together key stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who encouraged young people to embrace education, skills acquisition, innovation, and active participation in governance as essential tools for national development.

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the NYCN Lagos Ward Champions, recognizing outstanding young leaders making impacts in their respective communities.

It was also another opportunity to tap from our mentor and leader Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, immediate past Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, sharing valuable insights as a distinguished panelist during the panel session

The symposium reinforced a simple but powerful message: the future of governance belongs to youths who are prepared, informed, skilled, and actively engaged in leadership and nation-building.

Special appreciation to the leadership of NYCN Lagos State chapter under the leadership of Engr. Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan MNSE for organizing such an electrifying and insightful Symposium for youths to learn and develop.

SOLIDARITY WALK 2.0 – DEMOCRACY DAY 2026

Yesterday, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch, successfully carried out the Solidarity Walk 2.0 in commemoration of the 2026 Democracy Day, under the leadership of Comrade Okeyale Zakariyah, and coordinated by the Deputy Coordinator Lukman Oluwadamilare Tijani
The exercise, themed “From Street to Seat,” was aimed at strengthening youth participation in democratic governance, encouraging active involvement in leadership processes, and promoting peace, unity, and responsible citizenship within the community.

As the saying goes, “Democracy is not just about voting; it is about participation, accountability, and continuous engagement in governance.”

The programme recorded a strong turnout and was honoured by the presence of the Lagos State Chairman of NYCN, alongside a delegation of State Executives who joined in solidarity.

During the exercise, courtesy visits were made to respected leaders and stakeholders within Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, including:

Alhaja Sikirat Abimbola Jakande, wife of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande the first Executive Governor of Lagos State

Dr. Seyi Jakande, Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA

Honourable Rasaq Olusola Ajala, immediate past Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA

Hon. Akinsanya Nureni, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly (Mushin Constituency I)

Rt. Hon. Yemi Alli, Member, House of Representatives (Mushin Constituency I)

The walk successfully concluded at Harmony House.

The Branch sincerely appreciates the planning committee, all security agencies for their cooperation and professionalism, as well as every youth who participated and contributed to the success of the programme.

This initiative reaffirms our commitment to youth empowerment, democratic participation, and community development.

REPORT ON THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT MEETING AND COURTESY VISIT HELD ON THURSDAY, 21ST MAY 2026

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Branch, successfully convened an Emergency Management Meeting on Thursday, 21st May 2026. The meeting was primarily organized to strategize and mobilize youths for the forthcoming "Youth Walk for Democracy: From Street to Seat", scheduled to hold on Friday, 12th June 2026.

The event attracted key stakeholders, youth leaders, and members of the Council, all committed to promoting youth participation in governance and nation-building.

Courtesy Visit to the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA

During meeting, the leadership and members of NYCN Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye paid a brief courtesy visit to the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Dr. Seyi Jakande.

Also present during the visit were the immediate past Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Razak Ajala, and the Director-General of Sports, Lekan Fatodu.

In his remarks, Dr. Seyi Jakande warmly welcomed the youth representatives and commended the Council for its commitment to youth development and democratic participation. He encouraged all young people to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the political process, stressing that youths must be the deciding voice in Nigeria's political space.

The Chairman cited the example of the recently appointed Professor Ishaq Oloyede successor, Professor Segun Aina, who is reportedly only 39 years old, as evidence that young Nigerians are increasingly being entrusted with leadership responsibilities. He urged youths to prepare themselves for leadership opportunities through education, civic engagement, and active participation in governance.
