Last month at the CSW was more than just being present. It was about building partnerships that drive real, lasting change.

Our ED, Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, spent the CSW by engaging with global leaders, sharing STER’s survivor-led approach, and ensuring our voice is present where key decisions on gender justice are made.

From youth leadership panels to strategic conversations with UN agencies and city officials, to moments of recognition. Every engagement is pushing us closer to a world where women and girls can live free from violence.

Because real change happens when conversations turn into commitment and commitment turns into action.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

For 25 years, the world has been speaking up, pushing forward, and demanding change.
But awareness is only the beginning.

Because behind every statistic is a person.
A story.
A voice that deserves to be heard and believed.

This month, we are reminded that ending sexual violence requires more than awareness.
It requires action, accountability, and collective responsibility.

At STER, we continue to stand with survivors.
To challenge harmful norms.
To push for systems that protect, not fail.

Together, we act.
Together, we change.

Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.

At Commission on the Status of Women at Headquarters in New York, our ED represented Stand To End R**e Initiative in a day of powerful conversations and global advocacy aligned with International Women's Day 2026.

Swipe through to see highlights from the day.

During the engagements, Oluwaseun was honoured with the Women’s International Forum Youth Award, presented by Antoinette Merrillees of the Women's International Forum—recognising the impact of survivor-led leadership in advancing justice for women and girls worldwide.

From strategic conversations with Women in Finance Board members, including Mai Pham, exploring pathways for economic justice for women and survivors…

To amplifying grassroots solutions during an interview with UN Radio…

To engaging with Maggie Roache of the Girls x Women UN Foundation on strengthening collaboration for women and girls globally…

Each moment reinforced a simple truth:

Survivors must not only be heard. They must be centred.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme: Rights. Justice. Action is more than a message.

Rights without access are meaningless.
Justice without accountability is hollow.
Action without inclusion leaves too many behind.

At STER Initiative, we believe real change happens when survivors lead, when movements are resourced, and when partnerships move beyond promises to real impact.

The work continues. And we are grateful for every partnership, recognition, and opportunity to advance justice for women and girls everywhere.

Voices Without Borders: Youth Demanding Equal Justice for All

"A young woman seeking safety from violence.
A young person navigating unemployment despite their education.
A young activist raising their voice and being told to wait their turn."

At CSW70, our Executive Director, Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, opened with this reality and challenged it.

Joining Felipe Paullier (UN Youth Office), Stephanie Ester Sayo (Women Deliver), and Ada Jamile Gomes (TechGirls25), she reminded the room:

"Young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are already shaping the world today."

Oluwaseun didn’t speak about justice in theory; she spoke from lived experience. From surviving sexual violence to founding STER Initiative, she understands that the barriers survivors face are not just personal. They are systemic.

And systemic problems require bold solutions.

Her call was clear:
Justice must be accessible.
Institutions must be accountable.
And opportunities must reach those who have been left out for far too long.

"When young people lead with courage and solidarity, change does not remain an idea. It becomes a movement. And movements are what transform societies."

To every young person refusing to accept the status quo, keep pushing. You're already changing the world.

🎉 HISTORIC WIN: Nigeria's Sexual Harassment Bill Has Passed

After years of advocacy, Nigerian students now have legal protection against sexual harassment in tertiary institutions.

THE BILL INCLUDES:
✅ 5-14 years imprisonment for offenders
✅ Penalties for institutional leaders who ignore cases
✅ Independent reporting systems
✅ Transparent justice mechanisms

At STER, we've fought for this since 2019 — through our investigation partnership, nationwide campaigns, and advocacy with lawmakers.

Now comes implementation. We call on every tertiary institution in Nigeria to act swiftly. Protection must be proactive, not reactive.

Every student deserves safety. Every survivor deserves justice.

to our 2018 campaign. 🔄
Years later, these 10 Rules of Sexual Consent remain as crucial as ever. In a world where we're still fighting for safer spaces and respect for bodily autonomy, these aren't just guidelines—they're non-negotiables.
Every 'no' deserves respect. Every 'yes' should be freely and enthusiastically given. Every person deserves to feel safe in their own skin.

As we continue building communities where everyone can thrive without fear, let's remember: consent isn't complicated when we truly listen. It's about humanity, respect, and recognizing that everyone has the fundamental right to make choices about their own body.

Share this as a reminder that creating safe spaces isn't just someone else's job—it's all of ours. Because the rules haven't changed, and neither should our commitment to following them.

Myth: Reserved seats are just tokenism
Fact: Nigeria ranks 181/193 globally in women’s representation. The Special Seats Bill isn’t a favour; it’s a solution to systemic exclusion. This bill will bring us closer to a democracy that includes everyone.
We need a Nigeria where women are represented, respected, and leading at every level.

Can you name 5 female lawmakers in Nigeria?

That’s not on you—that’s on a system that keeps women out.

🔍 15 Nigerian states have zero women in their State Assemblies.

And nationwide, women hold just 4.2% of elected positions.

That’s not democracy. That’s exclusion.

Don’t stop here — keep sharing, keep speaking and signing the petition if you haven’t already.
