For us, at Linking Hands Foundation (LHF), Q1-2026 began with so much to look forward to for our NLEP children…until everything changed in the middle of January.
Years ago, our No Limits Education Project (NLEP) was born out of heartbreak.
When the Otodo-Gbame community was demolished, hundreds of children lost not just their homes, but their access to education. Many became part of Nigeria’s growing number of out-of-school children overnight. We couldn’t stand by. So we stepped in with the support of donors and friends, to rebuild hope, restore learning, and remind these children that their futures still mattered.
That is how LHF’s NLEP began.
So you can imagine how deeply painful it was to watch history repeat itself.
This January, many of our NLEP children in Makoko and Sogunro lost their homes again to demolition.
We searched for them. Some had moved as far as Ikorodu, Oke Ira and Badore. Others were living in canoes, trying to survive. One father didn’t know where his son was, as he had left with a friend to seek shelter. One of our children sent us a video of what used to be home to two of our girls.
It was heartbreaking again.
It felt like everything we had fought to rebuild was suddenly scattered.
But just like before, we refused to give up on them.
We provided emotional support during a deeply traumatic time, and found new schooling options for those displaced.
This is why NLEP exists; to stand in the gap when everything else falls apart.
Today, we are grateful. Though still healing, some of our children are back in school across Onike, Ikorodu and Badore, and we continue to walk closely with them. For those who haven’t returned yet, we are reaching out and reminding them that their story is not over.
This journey has not been easy. But our resolve is stronger than ever.
To everyone who has supported us with prayers, donations, and kindness, THANK YOU. LHF is grateful. Our children are grateful. We are deeply grateful.
It’s Q2 2026…and we keep going! 💛
